December new registration is 5301. Total available number goes down by 2428. The new registration number of the fourth quarter slows down a bit. Actually, it is even below that of the previous year. The encouraging sign is that the drop rate also slows down. And when the available number goes below 10%, big speculation might kick in. We still believe the four letter domains will all be registered before the end of this year.

Worth mentioning is that due to a big registration of domains begining with A, there are only about 60 or so available.

Please refer dyyo.com for the registration trend.

Nice trend analysis. If all 4 letter .com's are taken by 2008, do you think their value will get close to 3 letter .coms?

Definitely NO

I also believe even in year 2012, the value of LLLL.COM still can't close to today's LLL.COM.

What about proportionally though? Let's say in 2000, LLL.coms were worth xxx and are now worth 10 times that. In a few years, will LLLL.coms be worth mid xxx - low xxxx?

That's what I'm hoping for.

liked your site. However sometimes I think some of the available names are not in your database.

No, of course not. There are 456,976 LLLL.com combinations. Needless to say, that's a lot compared to LLL's 17,576 possibilities (26 times more LLLLs).

LLLL's are being terribly overspeculated, much like "blooks" here and .mobi (not the place or the time for an argument; that's just an example). It's simply not realistic that LLLLs, which are that less useful (LLLs are primarily used as acronyms -- it's tough to compare to the amount of 4 letter acronyms), will even come close to the price, proportional or not, of today's LLLs.

Not to even mention the amount dropping in comparison. :)

Some pronouncable LLLL's have already gone for mid $x,xxx. Will the value migrate towards that for a standard non-pronouncable domain over time? Probably not, but who knows. I still think end-users are more likely to opt for longer domains that make sense. Or 5-6 L pronouncable .coms before forking out premiums for random 4L.com's... I gaurantee that most of the LLLL.coms are owned by speculators and domainers like us. The end-user market isn't there and may never be, unless it's a quality domain. The reason people will pay mid $x,xxx for a LLL.com is because they know theres a chance that an end-user will buy it off them for 10x that. That coupled with a steady increase in value means you can't go wrong by investing in LLL.coms. LLLL.coms though, don't have a steady record of end-user buying so it doesn't make sense for values to increase tremendously until theres something that makes it worth investing in, which would be an influx of end-users.

Though right now, they are good for a cheap quick flip, though I advise holding onto ones with premium letters, because they will rise in value, probably not tremendously, but it's still worth the investment perhaps.

Most LLL.coms are parking pages. Speculation drives this entire industry. Speculation on the growth of the internet - not too far fetched IMHO.

End users do use LLLL.coms - many of them. There is no difference to speak of between a random LLL.com and a random LLLL.com --- except there are 26 times as many of them.

We shall see in a few years. I believe that once the names are not available to register the value will , slowly at first, trend toward 1/26 the then value of a similar LLL.com. Probably take several years to get there. Maybe the LLLL value will settle at a little less, for the extra letter -- or maybe a little more because more buyers can afford it.

But all the while the LLL.coms will continue to grow, too. At 5% per month, based on the last few years. Do the math - you get some huge values for LLLL.com that way.

I think we will see big investment companies buying up LLLL.coms. This consolidation appears to be the fate of most medium value and above domains even now. I believe I have seen them sniffing around LLLL.com already.

Think of it this way: New land opens up for development. A few hunters and trappers show up. After a while they sell out to the small farmers and ranchers. That is where we are now. Then the banks and cattle barons come along and buy up most of the land.

When they do LLLL.coms will be on their list.
"They aren't making any more of them."
