June new registration is 7670, while a total of 2810 names have dropped. The total available names decrease by 4860 to 32585. Due to the constant deleting, catching, and tasting process, we don't expect to see the number goes above 30k again on any given day.
We still haven't seen any significant speculation registration yet at this stage. Will there ever be any big guy interested to come in to scoop up the available names? The 800 pound gorilla in the domain business, Buydomains, is already quietly buying up names. They pretty much doubled their holding in four letter domains in the past 1.5 years. With their registration of just above 12k, they are still thousands behind the biggest holders of 4 letter names. By all means they can be the one that bulk register the remaining 4 letter names.
And it could be the best time to jump in now for the small investors. As a couple of big registration spikes can wipe out the available pool immediately.
OK, so if one day all the names are registered, will the full registration ever hold? Four letter domains started with 'A' might be a good indication. Since they are gone 6 months ago, there are seldom any available for hand registration. And we see quite a few of them being back ordered now.
You can get the current stat of available 4 letter domain names by clicking browse. But keep in mind that at least five big registrars are constantly testing four letter donain traffic, this number showed by browse can be signnificantly lower than real registration. At one time, we observed that almost all domains started with 'A/B/C/D' are all registered.
This big fluctration is the reason we publish the registration/remaining trend five or six days after. It also accounts for the big number of daily drop domains on our site. And some names can show up on the list again and again, as they are tested and deleted by those registrars many times.
