After you sell a domain at a marketplace, if the buyer requests refund from the marketplace
and they ask you to refund, what do you think?

1. What is the reason for the refund request?
2. Which marketplace?
3. What do the marketplace ToS say?

In general, I'd run from the marketplace which even considers this requests and asks the seller to refund for genuine sales. The only cases where the request would even be legitimate was if the domain was misrepresented - For example, ownership/provenance, IDN domain represented as character domains. All publicly information that can be verified by the buyer and misunderstood by them prior to the sale would not be grounds for a refund. Buyers MUST do their due-diligence prior to committing to a purchase.

Thank you. I agree with you it's unacceptable. I think the buyer told them 'he made a mistake'. At this time the registrar/marketplace won't be mentioned. See how it goes in the next few days.

I'd rather keep the money.

Nonsense. I would tell them fuck off.

Not resolved yet. The registrar locked my account - no transfer out allowed.

A refund would be appropriate if the domain was stolen by you or the person you bought it from.

Not a stolen domain. A regular legitimate sale.

If you have the money, nothing they can do. Otherwise, you need to read the TOS.

Wow, at a certain point you need to out these guys.

TOS doesn't say about refund after a completed sale. I have years of good relationship with them, so I'm hoping it turns out ok. I always prefer to solve a problem professionally and privately. Bringing this up hopefully alerts every name pro friends to make sure our registrars/marketplaces do keep all legitimate domain sales final. Thank you.

Sorry guys, since I'm being 'held hostage' here, I may have no choice but to refund and keep it private. Good luck to you all.

Why can not you share their details? If there is no mention of "refund after sale" in their TOS then they do not have any right to do this. If you mention them here there is a possibility this can be resolved or at least let them know about this thread.
Let us know who they are so we can stay away from them.

For the benefit of the rest of the community, you should mention them. And if possible provide more details. How are you being held hostage? Is it the marketplace or the registrar. What is the reason they're giving for holding you hostage. What is the leverage they have on you?

If you don't want to state it publicly, please PM.

So the registrar and the marketplace are the same entity ? Who can it be if it's not GD or NC ? This is very strange.
By the way, did you sell an IDN ? Then I can imagine the buyer is unhappy when they found out what they really bought. A refund can be justified in certain circumstances like when the merchandise was misrepresented. Whole story please :)

Namesilo, Dynadot, Name.com, Network Solutions (I think) and possibly a few others

Sorry. Let's just end it with this tip for everyone. Better use a registrar's marketplace for small transactions only, say $500 or less and reliable escrow for higher amounts. Best wishes.

Sorry but I learnt nothing from this.. If I ended up being one of the victims tomorrow, know fully well you contributed to it. Why even bringing this up if you are not going to be opened about it.

This is like saying ''Hello guys, I just sold a domain for $5000 , the name and details are your problem, guess them''.

It doesnt make sense actually. Imo
