Low value domain going for 5000$+ on GoDaddy

Hello , I was going through Godaddy auctions and saw the domain Washingtoncounty-ga.com .

It's close to 5000$ with 2 days remaining and has 4 bidders ( 3rd and 4th bidders are have a war) .

I wouldn't pay over 200$ for it tbh .Do you think these are fake bids?

I also don't see why the bids have reached $5000, doesn;t make sense to me

Perhaps the domains value could be better explained by some of our American members here or even better a few Washington residents? ....

Only the .com shows as being registered and not much exact monthly searches and has a hyphen.

The population in Washington county is about 30,000 so not sure why it's going so high.

It was the official website of the Washington County Chamber of Commerce so maybe the bidders think it has a lot of authority. The county moved the site to WashingtonCountyGA.com (without the hyphen) and then correctly set up a 301 redirect, but eventually let it expire.

Moz says there are only two external sites still linking to that domain, one of which is pretty high authority, but it doesn't seem to be $5k powerful. GoDaddy isn't reporting any traffic at all so there's no value there. Chalk it up to crazy people, I don't see any upside to shill bidding that domain because it doesn't impact any "market".

The current bid is $4,850. I agree with you that this domain is likely not worth much to the average domain name buyer; however, the market always determines the right price for a domain and sometimes luck is involved.

If someone is attempting to manipulate the system, I doubt they will go far because it's likely that if a real winner emerges, they will fail to proceed with payment. Then again, someone could just want that name really badly. It's doubtful because of the dash.

I'll keep an eye on this one.

The only thing I can think of is if whomever was supposed to control it lost it and it's a CYA move? It is still listed on the official Georgia.gov site georgia.gov/ cities-counties/ washington-county which makes less sense, why they would not just offer logical subdomains to their counties - washingtoncounty. georgia.gov D'oh, that redirects right back to the above link

Or they have a bad whois email for whomever would get it out of redemption, and the Chamber is unaware?

Too bad no one from Gabon has reached out to Georgia to partner up - ccTLD Gabon = .GA

I've checked at ahrefs and it has some high quality backlinks. It's obviously for that reason that is getting bids, but I don't see $5K value for this one.
In the past, I bought many weird domains, even in non .com, because of its backlinks with the only purpose to be parked and monetize existing traffic. Some of them made $xxx/monthly in revenue, mostly health and insurance related.
