Real Estate Domain Investments

I saw an expiring small-town real estate domain on Godaddy auctions and having visited that town many years ago thought if I can obtain this domain for a backorder I would put a $799 pricetag on it. The town has under 20k inhabitants but median incomes are higher than average. It is also close proximity to a beach. The day before I saw another bidder so I said OK I'll go up to $50 maybe slightly higher. There are four bidders with one exiting after $250. I suppose the remaining two bidders are real estate agencies as the bidding is now up to $2800. While I realize that the commission on a home sale can be thousands of dollars, selling domain names to real estate agents for more than low $xxx can be a challenge.

also whats the history of the name? was it a site once, traffic, pr etc?

yesterday on gd auctions colorplace.com went for 9100, it sure wasnt because of the words colorplace and even with the history of the name someone got nicely carried away

Original registration date 1999 and apparently several years ago it was developed / owned by a local real estate agent. I suppose there are some backlinks so some parking income would be possible. I'll check in several weeks and see if the winner just puts it in a parking platform and up for sale for $25k or if the winner was a local real estate agency (more plausible as it would be an excellent name for a local real estate agency). But given the small size of this town it seems difficult to understand this purchase price as a domainer looking to flip it.

if the domain fits the town name perfectly, it could make all their advertising more effective. because everyone in town will remember it after they hear it on the radio or see it on a sign.

also, one biz might feel the need to buy it to keep it out of the hands of their competition.

dont forget ego, a nice chunk of domain buys are due to serious ego issues, and once ego comes into the mix prices can go wild
