Lost domain because registrar dropped the ball

I have registered my domain name with the same company since 2003. In March I paid them to re-register for two more years which they gladly billed me for. After my domain no longer pointed to my website I contacted my registrar to find out that they, which they did not deny, somehow failed to complete the registar process. So now my domain belongs to someone else. Basically I lost my domain and they could say is theres nothing they can do because it now belongs to someone else, sorry. They did refund the $13.00 registration fees, which I could care less about. Has anyone heard of this happening? I feel I should be compensated for loosing my domain, It wasnt for sale. What kind of compansation could expect if any at all?
Thanks
Darin

Unfortunately you probably agreed to registrar terms and conditions stating that in this type of event they are liable for no more than the registration cost of the domain.

It is hard to comment further without knowing the domain and registrar in question. If the domain was high value and it is a registrar that sells expired names via their own auctions or a marketplace, you might have a case that they profited from this "mistake", otherwise not a whole lot you can do.

The registrar is ipowerweb and the domain is vintagetrikes.com . Not a high value site but did gernrate some benifits. This is what it used to be www.linnellfamily.com/vintagetrikes

One of your issues is that ipowerweb is not a domain registrar.

The registrar was OnlineNIC. Ipowerweb was merely a reseller, so you were never dealing with the registrar for this domain name.

Just for the record, iPower is terrible. Never use them. Good prices, terrible service though.
