Looks like Microsoft was the buyer of Cloud-computing.de when it sold last month for $37,500.

The site now is forwarded to micrososoft.com

I wonder why they would buy this name?

Because if anyone looks for it in Germany then they will end up on their corporate site.

$37k is a very small fee to pay really for what could be the next big thing.

I can't help agreeing with Satanclaus. Who is going to type in an English name on the German TLD, with a hyphen in the domain name. Morons!

I think you'll find that the large majority of Germans use hyphens in their domains to seperate two or more words. There are many such domains that are registered with the hyphens but available without !! So from the point of view with this particular domain, on the .de extension, it does make more sense to have the hyphen in the domain.

Alex , interesting that Germans use Hyphens in their names.

I think the only reason they bought the domain name is that they will make a heavy-promotion for this name in Germany.

With a size like microsoft, they don't care about money. All they care about is whether they can get what they want. 1 million, 10 million means nothing. Cash is no problem. The only problem is they don't get what they want.

MS doesn't have the cash it used to have. But still 37k isn't a large sum for them.
