Well today I was in search of names for my client, who was in need of a name for his 'media host'. First thing I do to give myself some ideas for names is search a keyword and get a list of suggested domains (such as the services provided by GoDaddy and ResellersIndia, etc..).

So, as you may have guessed, I search "media". The first thing that catches my eye is GoDaddy claiming 'media.info' is open. Obviously not, but I go with the flow and proceed to registry.

Anyway, long story short GoDaddy has screwed with their .info tld registrations and had to take it down, if you look at http://www.godaddy.com you cannot select the '.info' extension. (Taking the words from the support e-mail I recieved from GoDaddy after I was charged and didn't recieve the domain after half an hour in my account.)

I just found it quite funny to share, looks like GoDaddy is a bunch of problems and nothing more. :lala:

Every registrar's got its fair share of technical problems. Whether you'll take it
against them or not, especially if it's only one instance, is up to you.

In my case, though, I've got various reasons not to use them.

Of course, I've been having tons of problems with them over and over.
I wasn't planning on actually recieving media.info :p

I did the same thing with poker.de :)

GoDaddy showed it as being available and when I did a whois on the domain, it wasn't returning a record (tried this on several whois servers) so I figured it was worth a shot :) Obviously it didn't go through, but it's like 6 days later and I'm still waiting for a refund...

I've had several problems similar to this at GoDaddy though... Either the domain shows up as taken when it is not... Shows up as available when it is not... Or the registration just completely fails for absolutely no reason... And it always takes a long time to get a refund... Sometimes it takes them 2 days for the charge to even go through, so I'm thinking if the registration fails and I request a refund after a day, why can't they just cancel the charge before it goes through? That'd be too easy.

I have to find a new registrar.

Golf.info is always available, I have tried to register it about 100 times

The first time I saw that I almost wet myself... And it is not just godaddy, other registrars will show golf.info as avalable too...

Very true...take namecheap, they have problems registering .eu domains, mainly due to problems with enom and eurid but it is still a problem. Even the whois on .eu domains doesnt work.

Just ran golf.info through my own Wild West reseller site, but it didn't come up. WW must be just enough different from GD, despite the association.

On the other hand, I about had a cow yesterday when houses.de and travel.de both showed up as available...registered them immediately, but got an e-mail four minutes later explaining the domain(s) were not available....Too bad...got a pretty good aerobic workout there for four minutes...still kind of breathless after getting that close to a couple of big ones.

It's been my experience that ccTLD's, especially .de and .be, have too many issues when registering. I believe the problem is all the different rules that are used for them when registering a domain name. The Namestore platform tried grouping them together in different "types" to ease registration woes, but even then there's some things that aren't quite perfect. Some of the process can be manual as opposed to all automated which causes problems too. When i'm registering a ccTLD, I prepare for the worst and call the registrar every day to follow up.
