Registrar suggestions for domains names currently registered at GoDaddy welcomed.

I see Epik is quite active on the forums so that might be my first inclination...thoughts?

Thanks in advance...

The first question is why do you want to leave? If it’s for cost most places have GoDaddy beat on that front with a better price that includes privacy. I have names scattered but my favorite is NameSilo or Dynadot.

I think the first question should be... why do you want to transfer away from GoDaddy? And second what do you like/dislike about GoDaddy (if not covered by the first question). Thirdly, maybe. What are you wanting to achieve by this move. It's very difficult to answer your question realistically without knowing these facts. There are a lot of good points about the registrars recommended so far. But it could be your best option is to just stay with GoDaddy.

All good questions. I think especially the third question is important. It is always important to list the pros and cons of any action (including your time in learning a new system, for example). Your time horizon and number of domains are also relevant. If you have 2 domains and hope to sell them asap, then it might not be worth the effort in savings that it would be if you have a large portfolio and plan to hold many for a decade.

@richasis can you provide a bit more background re why you are planning to move them?

As a general point I think more often on NPs it would be helpful if those starting a post looking for advice provided a bit more background detail, which would help the responses be more focussed and helpful.

How much per transferring of .com names to epik?

Through end-October, we are doing .COM transfers at below cost at $6.49, all-inclusive, with an additional year of registration as is standard for .COM transfers. There is no limit.

I have 99% of my portfolio @ GoDaddy. They have good service via Premier Services department, if you qualify. Their prices are competitive with DDC. They offer security features like 2 stage authentication and DTVS.

Most importantly to me pretty much all end users have heard of GoDaddy. Most have GoDaddy accounts. It makes dealing with end users far easier and more effective and is also a source of many potential leads because of their market share.

With that said, GoDaddy is not for everyone. I have heard good things about NameSilo.

These are great questions, a registrar that's great for one may not be so great for another. As @MetBob also touched on, the number of domains you were looking to transfer could help with the advice being offered, it could affect your pricing at your potential new registrar and if you have a large number of domains you may wish to find a registrar that offers both discounted pricing and a straightforward transfer process.

Since, they are at GD you need to think if it makes sense business wise to pay to transfer-out, if your domains are already on sedo it could create a mess when you move registers unless you take down your sedo listings until you move then start them again, so that you can accept the email for automatic transfer if bin'ed. Right now you might be gucci, so yeah if there is a compelling reason to move out but if there isn't save funds and stay at GD.

Anyone using both epik and uniregistry? Any comparisons based on real experiences?

Any thoughts anyone?

Registra.rs was created with a thought to find good deals among all registrars.

I just transferred 90 names from Uniregistry to Epik.

Spent 30 min on Epik, experiences not very good.

Filter took a big part on the page. Spend 10 min to find out where to edit domain settings, change name servrs, or list on market...still not quite easy.

Rating 3 out of 10. Pretty poor user interface and experiences.

Uniregistry still the best so far. Transfer away just because I can save $2/ domain, and if 1000 names I can save $2000

That is true. Why would anyone want to leave GoDaddy? We have a team of people who only want to help you succeed in the industry. I am always happy to help look into things for you personally. I think we have some compelling offerings as well. We have a great way to acquire names to sell via the expired auctions platform and once you acquire names we have an easy listing process to get names on Afternic right from your GoDaddy domain control panel. We also have top notch security to protect your domains with options on how tight you want the security to be.

Not really. You are fantastic person. But not for other staff and services in Godaddy;

1), Online staff always provide wrong or less accurate information. Their goal is to make more money rather than provide you services in customer happiness

2), godaddy price is super high. Even you join discount club, the price still not competitive than uniregistry, namesilo, etc

3), user experiences very poor. design is ugly.

4), I cannot send email or online support for help. I need to either call them or have online chat with them, however, not every staff has good knowledge. My experiences is that I need to spend at least 45 min to explain my issue and back and forth. They are not effective, most of the situation they misled you and cheat you.

I have many screenshot as my evidence to show Godaddy is not a friendly and easy dealing with registrar.

During last 2 years, I have transferred all of my names away from them.

remember last few months I had some issues with my godaddy domains, I called them, chat with them, but only left me with disappointment and angry feelings.

I can only find you, send you message, create public complaint, etc to solve the issue.

Think about, it is only a small issue that I felt so much pain, I never saw that with uniregistry, namesilo, dynadot, etc.

All of my bad experiences came from Godaddy, I always suggest ppl to not use godaddy

I would agree that your quality of services have improved over the years. Although sometimes you try to do too much at once. For example in expired domains, the domains controlled by GoDaddy seem to work well. But selling all those 3rd Party's domains, and receiving them, is a hit or miss affair. It's an ugly mess. We get far too many "better luck next time messages" for my liking. It would help when if we were browsing these expiring domains if we could see in the control panel, which domains are controlled by GoDaddy and which domains are not. But I guess you don't want to openly admit to these shortcomings.

When everything is going well, GoDaddy works. But when things go wrong, you quote your ToS and just stick your tongue in your cheek. IMHO. I'm extremely suspicious when I win a domain from a third party register, and you tell me, sorry you could not get that name from an uncooperative registrar, and then all of a sudden the Whois changes to Afternic/NameFind (how does that even happen with a won backorder from a customer, and then the Whois changes to companies controlled by GoDaddy). So I wait it out to see who actually got the domain. And the name drops and I pick it up with a backorder from another company. For much less than I was willing to pay for my winning bid ;)

However much I would prefer to see email support return, because it is far easier, and much less time, to zap off an email for non-urgent issues. The few times I have used your local country phone number (which is just redirecting the call to the US). It seems to imply more urgency because you are actually calling somebody on the phone. The telephone service has been excellent. Above my expectations. Courteous , personable, and knowledgeable service and issues get/got resolved swiftly. All for the cost of a local phone-call. Which is much more expensive way to resolve a solution, than using an email.
