Looking at domain auctions... know what?

I was looking through the domain sales/auctions at Sedo, Afternic, Moniker, tdnam, etc...

You know what I've discovered?

There are a whole lot of people out there looking for rediculous money for domains. Stupid Money.

5 Million Dollars for "ComeStealMyHouse" dot com. What's that all about?

50 Million for "AmericanHealtyAndWealthy" dot com

100 Million for "ILoveDVRs" dot com

This can't be just a matter of people having unreal expectations of their domain's worth, can it?

There MUST be a reason they are asking these kinds of numbers... or are they just that diluted?

Good question - anyone care to answer it?

I don't understand it either, I just figure there's a LOT of people who can't tell a good name from a crap one or that maybe they just haven't learnt how to price names yet... :)

just think about it ...

wealth is like alooooot of money ... say 1 trillion dollars

that domain has more than wealth in it ... it has wealth..y ... say 1.5 trillion dollars

not only that ... it also has health ... say 2.5 trillion dollars total

and on top of that it is from the US ... therefore 3 trillion dollars

so there you go ... it's a bargain ... :'(

as for ILoveDVRs.com ...

man you can't just put a price on love now there can you ? >:( >:( :) :'(

edwinfelix - I think your computer has a problem mate ...

... it doesn't show all those smilies that I've been adding to my posts ...

having said that ... of course I'm serious man ... think about it this way ...

if you had a.com would you sell it for say 1 million dollars (actually more)

well this guy has a + m + e + r + i + c + a + n + h + e + l + t + h + y + a + n + d + w + e + a + l + t + h + y all in one domain ...

so it should worth at least 24 million ...

... well ok , so he is also trying to make a little profit :'(

well u never know some junk could be other ppl gems.. thats why fdomain names have endless possibilities of its value on its own..its hard to have an exact appraisal for it.

I agree that many domains can be really valuable ... that goes for good , brandable (even manufactured) domains too ...

eg. think about if you owned google before it became famous ...

nice word , it kind of rolls off the tongue nicely , sounds a lot like gulping something ...

sidenote:

actually it is derived from googol which is a mathematical term for 10 in the 100th power , a rather large number comprised of number 1 followed by 100 zeros ...

10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000

also interesting is the googolplex which is a "little" :hehe: bigger ...
googolplex is 10 raised in the power of googol or 1 followed by a googol zeros ...

... I'm NOT typing that ... D-: D-: D-: ... think of it this way ... a googol has 100 zeros (it is the number shown above) ... a googolplex has the-big-number-shown-above-amount-of-zeros :hehe:

click here for some interesting trivia on googol from wikipedia ...
it says the founders of google were going for googol but ended up with google due to a spelling mistake ...

/sidenote

Anyways , I agree , many domains have big values , one man's junk is another person's gem and appraisals are a lot of times very difficult , but ...

100 million dollars for ILoveDVRs.com D-: ...

if you think that is a normal price Malaysia , then I have a couple of domains for you ...
(just kidding Malaysia ... of course , I understand what you meant ...)

you wonder when you see this kind of domains listed at crasy price, i wonder when i see them actually sold not just at some low xx but at top dollar. remember parthnercashdotcom?
i still think that there is a reason why sertain person listing his domain at certain price, and where is a reason, may be far from domain business, why is a certain buyer paying that top buck for something, which worth a dollar. We will never know whats going on, or what was going on behind a scene between seller and buyer in their past. may be one own some money to the other one? And may be its a way to pay back? Or may be seller sell not just a domain, but something else is coming with it? Something, you may not list, or something, just certain buyer knows what?

Perhaps they list them at outrageously high prices just so they get noticed?

This thread is proof that it works.

gugush - we are not talking about money laundry (which could be happening , though , through big domain sales) here ...

... nor about scams ... eg. I once saw a sale in eBay for big bucks for a fair name ... it seems that the buyer , who was probably the same person with the seller (or a friend) was planning to use that "sale" as proof for the value of the domain ...

... we are probably just talking about overblown sale expectations from new domainers ... I mean , didn't you buy ohIlikethisdomainverymuch.com when you first started domaining hoping that it would sell for a million dollars ? The only difference is that they posted a listing for it somewhere (either for free or low cost) before they learned more about domains :)

nameClerk - there is a big difference between making a (not-very-good-)domain known or more popular with advertising a good name for sale . Nowdays people know the difference of listing-price and actual-value (at least people in the domain business) . But there is a point in what you said ... eg. I 've seen many times eBay listings with very high dollar prices so that they pop up on highest-price-first-searches .

DOMiNIC - Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo , I was hoping to buy those ... :'(
