I am starting to see some longtail domains being reported as sales on dnjournal

I did read somewhere that fromragstoriches/com was sold for $26k

I wonder what your thoughts are and do you have any ??

At the risk of being shot down here are two that i have

I don't prefer long tail domains these are not user and search engine friendly...

so you would not have registered 'fromragstoriches' and sold it for $26,000 if you could have ?

of course you would have , i also think as we head towards a speaking internet they may be not as frowned upon ??

I have no idea, i did supply their email though ....can always ask them if you really want to ??

I have bothered to look at a comparison, the newsletter arrives in my junk folder and i occassionally have a look

Interesting to see a longish .net command a few grand, well known phrase is easier to market

The thing is it is a very memorable name and providing the listener/reader remembers the .net extension it is self branding

That is true in tons of cases. Some speculator holds the dot com and thinks it is worth thousands. Frequently the dot net and dot org are for sale at high prices too. My thought has always been it will be years before any of them get built out so you can build your site on an available extension or buy a cheap one knowing dot com bleed is unlikely to become an issue.

Obviously, I wouldn't suggest that if you have really big plans for the site, but in many cases it seems valid.

I read on the weekend that microsoft had registerd 'findthe25thhour.com' Now i may got that wrong but it was something like that? I just thought it was quite interesting to see such a domain regsitered by an internet savy company?

It is worth considering that we are heading towards a 'vocal' internet but the use of numbers and words make it even more interesting .....will siri from iphone find the name anyway ?

One long tail name I have is howtolosetummyfat.com. The keyphrase has a search volume of 3,600 exact-match searches per month.

In my point of view the domain names are well enough but make sure that they are not spammed!!

I truly think as we head towards a verbal internet the length of a name may not be as bigger issue with some folk, nealy all real estate names are long tail and some are worth an absolute fortune

i think it dsn't matter how you have long tail domain or short tail domain its depends on how its contained keywords stuff which you want to target.

I did some searches during the week and it seems some folk are happy to have longtail/long domains as brandables, i think it makes a bit more sense than some random cvcv name that is not related to the business niche

Two examples i found are

iloveamystery/com
youcouldbedancing/com

with both businesses you know what to expect, seems fair enough to me

and yes ...... iloveabeer is available @

forgot to mention here in Australia we are seeing ads for Kfc which has the website address as 'thegoodification.com'

yeah im not a fan of longtail either. let's face it, even linkin park named the band so they could get the .com. the name matters, but this market is supply and demand, with the right audience, your domains could be gold.

I like long-tail domains if they make sense and are memorable. I just picked up BeforeYouCommit.com.

The exact GAKT search isn't high, but it's a term ("Before You Commit") that gets over 22,000,000 listings in Google.

I see lots of possibilities for end user use. (detective agency, relationship site, consumer Review site, etc.)

Having said this, I wouldn't pick up thousands of these kinds of domains. Unless the GAKT numbers support them, they're still risky.

One thing to consider is that some sayings/long domains/ longtail domains do seem to change a bit depending which country you are in.

As .com one word prices skyrocket it is not surprising to see longer domains being sought after, plus if you are thinking 'siri search' what's another word to speak ?

yeah that's true. ive been picking up a lot of long tail domains recently but those are to target specific phrases only. but mostly because phrase in domain still has an advantage in google.

I guess it depends on the niche whether the domain length will matter or not. I always try to pick up as short domain name as possible. The shorter yet meaningful and related the better.
When you're registering a company, it is always preferable to pick more general name, even one that does not make much sense, because you are not restricting your business at a very start, so you can expand it later on.
