It is a safe bet that all but the most obscure acronyms and pronounceable are already taken.

My favorite saying regarding LLLL.com is that a random LLLL is an acronym that I haven't yet found. That said, the idea is to maximize the chance that the name(s) you get will be "found" - that they will be most likely to be the initials of a company that is willing to spend money for a domain.

The least often used letters are Q,X,Y, and Z. While names with those letters do sell, the odds increase without them.

The next tier is names containing one or more W,J,K,U or V. Any name you find for registration will contain at least one letter from these two groups. Interestingly, this has been true for at least a year and a half - an indication of the power of the superstition that there is a hard line between "premium" and "bad" letters.

Anyway, I would recommend you look for names with one (or rarely two) letters from the second tier and where the other letters are as commonly used as possible. One possibility would be to type the names you are considering into Google to see possible acronyms and the total number of hits. However, most of the higher hit count names are long gone.

LLLL.com names have been carefully searched through by many people over a long time. Coming into the game now you do not have the selection previously available. However, you do have the advantage that you did not have to pay renewal fees on your names for all that time.

It is expected that there will be a lot of interest in LLLL.com names as the last ones are taken - probably some time next year. They offer a small risk and the posibility of a good reward. Check out DYYO.COM for more information and a great search tool.

Get VCVC.com domains. (V - vowel, C-Consonant) I get the impression that CVCV.com domains have run out and so it stands to reason that VCVC.com domains will run out in the near future.

Use the search tools at DYYO.com or InstantDomainSearch.com to find them.

Your best bet at this point is to use eBay and pick up decent LLLL.com's from $10-$20.

Really good tip. Because investing in 2 or 3 junk domains will be equal to one pronounciable LLLL.com which you can still get it at descent prices.

LLLL.com generic is like zxdk.com
CVCV.com is like buvo.com, it is pronouncable

should be pronouncable and with good letters.

This is an old arguement, but I will hit on it again. Finding points where the conventional wisdom is not fully valid is a good way to see buying opportunities.

While pronouncable names are nice, and those that really look like words (i.e. sedo) can be very valuable (someone said that the company bought SEDO.com undeveloped for $50,000), I think the end user market is more about letter frequency. A company that wants a brand has many names to choose from. If they want a short name they can have any 3, 4, 5 even 6 letter name, there are long lists of them to pick from. Unlikely that they will happen to choose yours and lay $$$$ or $$$$$ on you for it. After all, they want the best deal for their money.

However the company that already has their business name and wants an acronym for it (say, because the entire name is too long) has only one or a very few possible choices. They need a specific name and will pay for it.

Yesterday I registered RMIW.com and CSOJ.com. $6.85 each at Whiz.in (plus the time it took to find them). "C", "S", and "M" are top letters and "R" is a good one. "O" and "I" are mid-range, some would count their being vowels a plus.

As I mentioned earlier, a reg fee name these days will have at least one of the "bad" letters. "J" and "W" are the best of the bad, indeed in some rankings they score well.

So there are different ways of doing this. That's a good thing, it means we all are not after exactly the same names.

If your going for the probability that the letters will be used in a business acronym, I'd prefer a LLLLL.com. There are more LLLLL.com domains with a good chance of being in an acronym. Personally, with the quality of LLLL.com remaining, I think that their main application is in brandable applications or acronymns that are later chosen after purchasing the name.

I've always found http://acronymfinder.com usefull when doing an acronym search. I personally don't search for those often, however, I look for fake words that can be brandable such as siyk.com.
