Not sure how that is really an upgrade. The domain seems redundant using life twice.
Seems like a pointless branding decision.

There are plenty of very nice sites already developed at .life...it is very good new gTLD extensions imo.
Forgive me, mod'ers, I had to give it the recognition it deserves!
This has to be one of the dumbest markteting things I ever seen. Wait booking.com did something even dumber, They advertised new gtld that does not exist.
Bookmarking this thread so I can bump it when they switch back.
Remember o.co. People were so excited how co is so cool. Overstock lost tons of money because of it and swtiched back. But these guys are on a different planet and they do not know how to get back to earth.

They should get a domain GetALife.com because getalife.life is probably already taken by some new gtld "investor". This term is used too loosely today.
This is honestly shocking.

Lifetime.fitness or life.fitness or fitness.life would make more sense to me.
Just a guess but maybe they tripped too many spam filters with their email marketing and need a new domain to recover. Probably just don't want to pay up for the matching name.
I think, that short lt.life is really helpful domain because most their traffic is coming from smartphones etc.
I bought lifetimefitness.co.uk for £1 back in June just because i liked the domain. I'd never heard of the US company, but now i see their name everywhere.
their business, their choice & their decision.
You are right they are not breaking any laws, but its very STUPID and Market will punish them accordingly.
I really don't understand the decision. LifetimeFitness.com is a good name. Lifetime.Life just seems awkward and actually a little confusing.
The change makes perfect sense to me and good branding IMO. Life Time is their registered TM, they are dropping fitness because they're much more than just your regular fitness center. One good look around their site shows why .life is a great match for them. BTW - Life Time in .com is taken so they have insight to launch on a newer G.

Agreed, Most of guys who stick with .com only get some pain in there ..... And even some stupid become Market legend and call this move destruction of company but hey tell me, who better know company?
The company board of director our the so called market legend here!
If they have bought lifetime.com or fitness.com and wasted there million dollar for a .com name all of this so called market legend call this move one of the best move by any company of the year.
In my opinion (I might be 1000% wrong) it's one of the best strategy of this company as not only they able to save million dollar but also they got a cool memorable, brand name.
Not fond of this rebranding too, the name is just redundant, this move doesn't bring added value imo. Looks like a fad or a poor attempt at shortening their name just for the sake of it.

Yes, there is a .fitness TLD...
Probably they could even challenge this name at UDRP.

The name is harder to understand and repeats life twice, looks unprofessional.
This does not show that new extensions are getting more popular, it shows that marketing departments still don't understand domains and can make very stupid decisions.
it is obviously a downgrade.
Separate names with a comma.
