There have been many discussions on this topic.

For those of us who do this day in and day out, what is your opinion.

Personally I do not use Gmail or any other free email because I believe it does not look professional.

I would love to use a service like Streak which would be great for organizing and tracking, but I don't know if it would have an effect on sales because it might be perceived as unprofessional or even spammy.

For those of you who do this on a regular basis, what do you use and what is your opinion.

I would like to switch to a Gmail based option for the tracking, but I have been holding back.

What do you think?

.US domains.US domains
For tracking most companies like mailchimp work great but I do personally think gmail is a bit spammy.
A .com for your name or site would prob work best. :)

If own domain - be ready to be blacklisted by Spamhaus etc.

Best of both worlds. Own email linked to gmail (using your own mailserver for outbound).

Your brand or company domain is good.

Are you referring to a mail relay from your hosting provider?

Gmail requires entering your own mailserver now for this. Yes, I do it from my server, I have dedicated one, but even cheapest hosting should allow for this.

I've my @mydomain.com added on Gmail account, of course the recipient sees my address.

Pretty sure that Streak works with any email, at least SideKick does.

I think it only works with Gmail now.

I think it used to work with Outlook also.

Are you saying you use your domain name based address for example [email protected], and the end user only sees your domain based address, but it is routed through Streak and Gmail?

And the Streak CRM still works this way?
And the tracking still works this way?

If that is true, great!!

According to the results from the poll, so far the consensus seems to be using your own domain address instead of a free account is the best way to go when contacting end users.

Anybody else want to weigh in here?

I haven't tried streak, but don't see why it would not work.

I use ea at recons dot com. I receive everything in my regular free @gmail.com mailbox, when sending I have a choice from pop-down menu to choose if it is going from ea at recons or regularname at gmail. If I choose former, it routes the email via my mail server. That is it.
