Ok after reading alot of posts on this forum and others, it seems many n00bs are wasting time and money on domains, so id like to share a bit of information and advice from my personal view.

Im by no means a millionaire, but over the years ive picked up some trade secrets.

First of and the first rule really is, know what your doing. Ive seen and had personal experience in 'JUMPING INTO THE DEEP END'. When i started domaining i dented my Credit Card and was left with a big loss in cash, all because i didnt know what i was doing. I purchased names that i thought could sell instantly for profits. Its very hard to do that in the 21st century as domaining has being going on since the internet launched, all the best names are now taken especially in the .com world, which is the TLD that will make the most profits.

The best way to learn is to ask questions, speak to people who know what there doing. I remember i used to sit on godaddy and type any old crap into the TLD search, if the domain was available i would rush for my credit card incase someone else gets it. I didnt consider the development aspects or the use of it, i just purchased it, then after realised i did the wrong thing, then 10 mins later id do it again.

Development is very important if you hope to make any money from the domain industry. People see development as boaring, a load of junk and code that takes ages to do. For me its fun, i enjoy looking after a website that gets over 100 Uniques a day. As you probably know i have just purchased http://www.Userbar.net . Befor i purchased the domain i searched google to see what sites offer userbars. A userbar is something you add to signature that looks cool and lets people know what you like ect (http://www.userbars.com) Its a newish thing which hasnt yet been fully accepted as people dont really know of them yet. After searching i found there was only a few sites that offered free userbars. There easy to create and i have ALOT of time on my hands as i dont work, so i thought, why not. It will be a personal challange and if done right will create a high traffic website that can be added to my portfollio. The next step for me is SEO and setting up advertising campains, but all this is part of the development and for me this is fun and i enjoy doing it. So if you have no time to learn or develop you really need to take up a new hobby if your doing domaining for money.

Make sure you know exactly what you want from your domain befor your purchase it, you will only waste money and it will sit wasted on sedo.

Hope this helps a few of you. One key rule is: 'To make money you need to develop'. Go learn HTML and get some image software. From there build and if your brave learn PHP and MySQL!

Good Luck.

Year. you are absolutely right. Many of us rush initially when the name is avilable not even thinking of developement. But, still few people are there. They think of it and register it and sell it wisely.

Yes, i highly agree, devolopment and reveanue our key issue in selling a domain. Even if its a minisite that has been devoloped with an ypn or adsense banner. Theres alot of factors that going into it. is it generic, easy to pronounce, reveanue pron, devolped.

Get someting to show for the domain, thats what increase value
