Hi guys,

I recently purchased the domain LeicesterFootball.com and have posted an auction on Flippa.

I am curious as to what you guys believe it is worth, given that Leicester City Football club is now a winning premiership team.

chelseafootball.com for example is on sale for £100000.00 according to 123-reg. Not that I expect it to be worth that much of course.

Welcome to the forum, this approach to domaining won't take you far in the business unfortunately.

My first thoughts was trademark issues, but thinking about it more i don't think you'd have any problems as it doesn't say 'LeicesterCityFootball' - Leicester City doesn't represent the whole of football in Leicester (schools/pubs etc) and Leicester City couldn't prevent a new team being formed called Leicester United (for example).

I think the main problem is there's not much value to the domain, that's just my opinion though, hope you never paid too much.

Ahh it doesn't have to be an official Leicester City Football Club site. It can even be a directory site listing football teams based in Leicester. The words Leicester Football imply no official affiliation with the club.

It could however be used as a fan site.

It's not the domain that has the problem, it's the 'approach' as @vivaldi very well said

@Polgray
as long as you don't make it obvious (like in your OP) that you're after the big money from the club, you'll be alright I think ;)

good luck!

What I meant was I've seen similar domains with "city" followed by the "sport" being perceived as strong value.

I would think it could be used as a fan blog perhaps with Adsense

Perceived by whom? The deluded sellers?

I do understand that in this business small fishes are sweet and if I even make £10 profit on an acquired domain I would consider that a worthwhile sideline.

An item be it a domain or something else will surely garner a little interest if it has a high perceived value even if the product (domain) sells for nowhere near that value.

It's the warm fuzzy feeling that a buyer would get if they buy something cheap that is in fact considered to be worth a lot more. Take a lot of Ebay auctions for example.
