Hey, I just saw an article about how you should own your own name as a .com if possible, but my question is if you happen to own someone else's of "FirstnameLastname".com does the real-world person who's name that is have any legal recourse to take the domain from you, even though you may not be doing anything commercially or maliciously with it?

I'm guessing that this has been discussed at some length regarding "celebrity" names - and I'm wondering if the issues hold the same for non-celebrity names.

If they're not celebrity names and just generic like MikeShaw.com for example, I don't see how there is a recourse for legal action!.

However, if you own MikeShaw.com and there is a person by that name who happens to be, say a plumber and you monetize the domain for plumbing keywords, it might be an issue, but there is such a fine line here, and it would be interesting to hear from others who might have better knowledge on this subject!.

It general it is first come first served on non famous FirstLast.com

The only exception could be if you are intentionally using someone's name to slander, or in other way harm them

If it is your own name, and you do not have that name common with a celebrity, then no problems, but if it is not your name but someone else has that name, then what are you doing with it anyways? Unless you want to name your baby that way and setup his blog from even before he/she is conceived :D
