Last minute .eu reg. Where to go?

Hi there,

Where is the most likely place to get a domain on pre-reg. People are saying it is dd24 or internet.bs?

In terms of internet.bs, do u only pay the 11 euros if you get the name? If you do pay, do u get the money back. Is this the same with dd24?

Ive left it a bit late as ever so views are greatly appreciated :)

I do not know which company is likely to have the best chance in getting you a .eu domain but you may want to look at www.webcentre.lycos.co.uk to place a backorder ?

They charge about ยฃ 9 and you don't pay anything unless they get you the name. They have been real annoying with the ones that I have reg'd though.

I placed a backorder for 140 about 7 months ago - I phoned them a couple of weeks ago to check there was a no fee up front which they said there was'nt. When I confirmed my order and put in my credit card details they then sent me a letter saying everything was confirmed - a few days later I got an email saying if I did'nt pay 25% up front by 28th March they will cancel my order !!

After numerous phone calls I still don't know if my order is cancelled or not ?? :td:

If you are only after a few domains you might be fine using them ?

I called DD24 a few days ago. They say that they have had enormous success rates with other new gTLD's. They said that in the past they have had an 80% success rate.

I'm not sure about Pool - I think they go to bid if more than one person has backordered it ??

Salesmans Patter IMO !

You could take a look at the following from www.eurodns.com - I am not sure of their exact terms - ie Do you pay upfront - Do you get a full refund etc

With over 300,000 registrations under the 'Sunrise' registration program for trademark holders, EURid is expecting several million registrations to be made on April 7th, underlining .eu as one of the leading TLDs in use in the world. Successful registrations cost EUR 18.00 per year.

Bidding.
In the event that Pool.com is successful in acquiring such domain, Pool.com will conduct an auction and the domain will be registered on behalf of the highest bidder in such auction. If you choose to bid for a particular domain and you are the highest bidder at the end of an auction, you are obligated to complete the transaction and pay to Pool.com the amount of your winning bid. Other terms and conditions applicable to auctions are set forth on the website, located at eu.pool.com. Carefully consider your bids prior to placing them - Bids are not retractable under any circumstances.

This is out of order IMO :td:

that is ridiculous. as if they are not making enough at 60 euros a time.

In terms of dd24, do u have to pay 25% of the fee on pre -reg?

Looks like they take two pre-reg's per domain and only charge if they get it - That's assuming dd24 is http://www.domaindiscount24.com/

This is off their homepage: "Pre-register your dot EU Domain free-of-charge!"

"For the landrush phase we will only accept two pre-registrations per domain, whereas the priority of the first-come-first-served will still be applied"

Registration during the Landrush Phase

Was that dd24 ??

That's the kind of thing that is really P****** me off - When people state the "opposite" on their website and then do that !!

I think there are going to be alot of disgruntled people when they realise they did'nt get the name and still end up paying one way or another.

Not so bad if you are only after a few and you receive a FULL REFUND if they are not successfull - A different story if you are trying to reg 140 names. (not that I would'nt want to pay for all 140 if they get it, I would)

The reality is there's is a minimal chance they will be that successful - then they will probably take months to process any refunds so they earn loads of interest !! :td:

I think if Lycos has cancelled my order of 140 :-/ ?? I am just going to wait until after April 7th and see if I can find any unreg'd gems.

yup that was dd24.

Unbelievable! If i didnt read the small print i would have been disappointed. Do u know how i can send the fee via paypal as they just have bank codes and stuff. $NP for people who can help me do this :)

That sucks big time !! Sorry I don't Kev - I only do my reg's by credit cards, hopefully someone here will help you sort it out :)

is there even an option to send your credit card details on dd24? I have been scouring the site and it gives nothing away. I think it expects me to send the money via a pigeon!

Help appreciated as always

I had the same problem with Lycos - I told them to take the 25% off my credit card but they refused - They will only accept a wire transfer !!

It looks like dd24 expect the same !

I seriously think it is just a ploy to make money in interest before they get around to giving any refunds ! :td:

what does a wire transfer mean? i thought it meant paypal? So how am i meant to pay dd24 ?

what about godaddy.com? Do they charge before you register?

Thanks

A wire transfer is done directly from your bank to their bank electronically

Don't know about GoDaddy ??

so i have to go to the bank and get them to do it then? this pre-reg business is pretty stressful :imho:

As far as I know Kev, yes you will need to go to the bank first - Stressfull - that too :) I spent about 200 hrs at least finding/choosing names I wanted to pre-reg over the last 8 months, it looks like all that time was wasted thanks to Lycos's change in policy at the last moment.

I preregistered wap.eu at godaddy. They charged me $19.95 for it. I checked at Eurid and it appears that wap.eu has gone with sunrise guys. I'm waiting for the landrush to begin and see if GoDaddy will reimburse me, or allow me to register an alternate .eu domain.

I also preregistered several to .eu domains (i.e. computers.eu, soccer.eu, racing.eu, economy.eu, cats.eu etc) at Internic Datenkommunikations GmBh, http://www.internic.at. They are not charging anything to preregister but once your domain goes through they will charge euro 18??? I have about 30 premium names preregistered and I'm hoping to at least get 5 out of those - given that they were only accepting one preregistration per domain.
