I registered about 30 .XXX domain names back in 2011 when the extension first launched. Most were 1 word domains related to adult content.
So I had zero success with .XXX domains over the past 5 years and zero sales. This makes it probably my worst domain name investment. A loss so far of over $10,000 in registration fees and renewals.
If others had better luck with .xxx domains I would like to hear how they did it. Maybe my sample size was not enough or my domains not good enough. 30 domains is not that large of a number but that above was my experience...

You should Develop one or two of these websites and make it worth while

The only .xxx domain I would have bothered registering if it was available would have been xxx.xxx

Maybe I am reading it wrong, but I can not get real information from this article..

Person is stating there that "I had zero success with .XXX domains over the past 5 years and zero sales" without actually telling the names.

So it is unclear whether this fail was because .xxx TLD as such, or whether keywords he selected and registered were simply not ok..impossible to tell without further information. Maybe if we know the names, we can discuss in more detail why it might not work out well..or maybe we can really discover that .xxx is selling very bad.

I am quite curious, as I do not really have experience with this particular TLD.

I think xxx names are handy for low value personal sites, or maybe feeder sites for a .com domain.

The individual who made that post is not a newbie. He is an experienced domain investor so is probable the names fit the TLD. While keyword availability is easier in alternative TLDs, they are not easier to sell. Most end users prefer marginal-quality domain names available for reg fee over paying a premium to an investor.

I didn't post from a trading perspective. I guess it was as a result of a friend wanting a domain name with his exact farm name. I found it unreg'd in xyz. I appreciate that it's unlikely to be worth more than $25, but it does give him a memorable name for his shows. Everybody seems to focus on the resale of names, but I believe there can be more to domaining than that.

I must apologize to you guys. I read the title as xyz and not as xxx. I guess I have xyz on the brain at the moment. Please read my posts in this thread as referring to xyz, and therefore not relevant.

Mods - I won't take offence if you delete my posts in this thread.

I agree with the op about xxx - I ignored that right from the beginning. :)

His sample size was way too small to be statistically significant and no analysis or conclusions can be drawn from it on how well (or poorly) these domains sell.

Konstantinos Zournas is a fearmonger and sensationalist. He only cares about clickbait titles.

1 .xxx sale in 2016 on namebio.

Domain Price Date Venue
vrporno.xxx 350 USD 2016-08-03 Flippa

This is a dead extension.

I believe he mentioned a $10k loss on those domains while another commenter mentioned a $30k loss. If those sort of losses are statistically insignificant, then newbies loading up on new TLDs are in for a wake-up call in a few years (we are already concluding year three of the new TLD program).

Why dont you show us your .xxx names? Wont hurt you, since you are planning to drop them anyway......

He might be a successful domainer but he is totally a noob in the adult domains department. Adult domains are great for affiliate marketing, not for hoarding I bet he didn't visit GFY even once in the last 5 years.

It is truly a dead zone. I demonstrated a while back that at least 80% of domain names are inactive/reserved (you can tell by checking the name servers). Last time I checked the situation didn't improve. Most registrations must be defensive and not speculative. This is a DOA extension.

Adult names are hard to sell, unless they have traffic. The norm in the industry is to use low-quality/throwaway domain names. We are not talking branding the traditional way here. Plus, adult webmasters generally are against .xxx. And these names are expensive anyway.

If you have masochistic leanings and want to make your life difficult (and bleed your wallet), invest in a TLD like .xxx.

Exactly, we want to see names! Otherwise we are just making blind conclusions here, from the top of our heads..

Btw, based on domainer experience I would bet the names he selected are pretty good, and we will learn that .xxx is not really selling..but why to guess, when names are to be dropped, no damage will be done to anyone, if we can see them.

^^^About stats from namebio: I wrote it several times before, and will gladly repeat it: you can not draw any conclusions about real sales of new gTLDs based in namebio, as 95% of new gTLD sales are unreported there. They are unreported there, because at the moment there is a huge competition among several parties in registering them, and nobody reports it as far as I know (except 1 nice guy - I am not joking..he really reports his sales).

So lets get real facts, if possible, in this case the domain names :)
