Wow! You have renewed this domain for all these years since 2000? That's impressive!

And yes, the translation is correct. It's com of "dot com".

コム (n) {comp} computer output microfilm system; COM

This is one of the better Japanese dictionaries I have found. Above is their translation of your word.

Click on "look up words", then enter Japanese or English into box.

I know about this one but I think there's obviously a flaw in the meaning. If you were asked to define what "com" means what would you say? This term in japanese gets over 70 million google hits so its pretty well used.

I just really need to know what the current market conditions for a name like this are and how much I should expect to sell to a reseller for. Is xx,xxx out of line?

I think you'd be hard pressed to get 5 figures at this stage in the market, but it is definitely a keeper, IMO. They're right, you basically have "com.com."

Back when the Japanes Overture tool worked consistantly, you would see this all the time, it was basically the equivalent of Overture with extension, as Japanese type-ins would include this as the ".com" part of the domain.

It's searched for probably only because of the ".com" ending and japanese don't type into the url bar yet, they only look for websites via search engines and often add the ".com" for the website they want to go to. This is because urls are still largely in english while japanese cannot as a rule type consistently in english. Therefore they type the website name in japanese with extension and the search engine takes them there. Make sense?

So yes "com" is a known term, i doubt there will ever be type in traffic to such a domain name. But as a novelty item, no doubt it has potential someday. I'd keep on holding it if you have the funds to do so comfortably.
