domain Kombat.com

I currently work for a company that owns www.kombat.com.au we are now an international company (although not big) and we are trying to buy the domain kombat.com someone else owns it and currently has a "Dating Services and Personals Ads Directory " link farm parked there. I know that Dotster Inc own the site and that they offer to sell it through the brokers at Sedo.com.

What do you think they would come back with? We have a legit right to the name as we are called Kombat and I know there is a legal (if a bit expensive) process we can go through to get it. It would be a lot easier to buy it this way, but do you think they are going to be asking for thousands of dollars?

dotster inc, is the registrar, not the owner....

Friend Finder Inc owns it and may have way deeper pockets than you for legal fees.

besides that,

Kombat .com was created on 03-JUL-98... when did you start your company???

if before that, ok, otherwise good luck....

also, you might notice that the owner is also a corp, which can mean some assets to fight back with some heavy hitters...


you can ask nicely and offer a LOT of cash and you might have a chance, but i dont think you will be very happy with the results of trying to take over the domain forcfully... IMHO

Upon merely doing a Google search I uncovered several other companies using both Kombat.ext and Kobat in conjunction with other words in their domain name suggesting you'd probably have a hard time proving that the domain was registered in bad faith. Imo, filing a domain dispute would be a waste of both time and money. Your best bet would to be to either send an offer through Sedo or via whois. If you take the whois route, use a freebie hotmail account that can't be traced back to your company (which may impact the quoted price).
