This is strange.

KCO.com was expired and being auctioned on GoDaddy's TDNAM.com. With 8 days left it was at $4,200 already, with a number of bidders.

Then I wake up today, was supposed to be 7 days left, and what do I know, it completely dissapeared from TDNAM.

Now it's registered to: Christian Kaindl Consulting

Could this be some kind of illegitamate move done by GoDaddy? Seems as if these registrar companies are doing too many illegal things lately and ICANN is doing nothing about it.

nope no illegality here, it seems that the owner renewed the domain.. although the domain has expired the owner has 40 days to renew the domain without penalty. yes godaddy auction expired domains after some period time hoping the owner does not renew it. that is why also it takes longer to received the domain, that is when it is definately safe to transfer the ownership to you and the previous owner can no longer go after the domain.

I contacted the domain owner, It must have triggered him/her to remember the domain and renew it.

I hate this redemption thing.

From now on, if you forget for whatever reason that you have a $10,000+ name to renew, then you don't deserve to own the name.

the domain is not yet at a redemption period.. after 40 days (grace period), can then only be called at a redemption for another 30 days.. which then the owner can still recover the domain for a fee that is icann's policy.. i dont know how godaddy auction works but i think previous owners can still chase after their domain?? what do you think?

Well the domains are auctioned during their redemption period I'm assuming.

yes it should but...
look at kco.com was before they renewed the domain
Domain Name: KCO.COM
Created on: 02-Mar-97
Expires on: 03-Mar-06
still at grace period when godaddy put it up for auction.. i dont know godaddy's tos regarding their expired domain.. but i would think previous owners can get their domain back even when they are already been transfered to the new owner as long as they request it before pending delete status

That is actually GoDaddy's Standard of Procedure... EVERY expired domain goes into a 10 day acution during the redemption period. The buyer has the right to renew his name during the redemption period (but it cost him almost $100 bucks to do so).

That's the process.... as much of a bummer as it is.
