I'm usually the hip and current one in the room among my friends. Every new term I catch most times.

But I'm embarrassed to say I missed the repurposing of the name "Karen" into a derogatory term for privileged entitled white women. Lol

Since when?

Just Google "Karen meaning" for explanation.

Interestingly.
karen is a member of an indigenous people of eastern Burma (Myanmar) and western Thailand. The language of the Karen, probably Sino-Tibetan.

Also there are 46,105 domains with the keyword Karen.

Anyone ever heard of this repurposing of the name Karen.

Curious to know who started this.

Similar to OkBoomer.com coined by some kid.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Again... You're taking my general comments about how we all need to change our behaviour, and applying them to one situation, which is misrepresenting what I said.

The central park woman was clearly being hateful and was in the wrong.

New York "Karen's" are the worst.
Especially those who live around central Park.

Upper Eastside
Upper Westside

Many are unmedicated.

I dated a few over the year in my youth. Most are rich brats that want to rebel against mommy daddy and go out with a brown boy.lol

They treat central Park like it's privately their even though rich and poor people taxes out for it.

Polite and respectful people have died due to false accusations over the years. That's the whole problem.
Exactly! That's why I'm saying everyone should be recorded all the time. False accusations would cease to exist.

Can't forget "Chad" as the male equiv.

Using any name in a derogatory fashion is absolutely bullying. Imagine the middle schooler, adjusting to all the existing social challenges, and then having to defend against this ridiculous trend. Really puts a pulse on where we are in society, we can do better....

Intuitive question. Without directly answering, here is one of my favorite movie clips.

Well he raising sheep dogs ...Karen the wolf , the ppl she attacks is the sheep n the ppl calling her Karen n exposing her is the sheep dog..👀
But some ppl on this thread acting like it’s so wrong. I think saying Karen is just like saying , B or jerk or a hole , etc.. they all just mean you on some Bull S ... If a person don’t want to be exposed they should get off the BS.. n thats for anybody, Karen, Tom, bob, mike mike, lil man, tony bone, Felicia..whoever🤷🏽‍♀️

Going back to my first statement. Using a personal name as a derogatory slur is bullying. It is lumping all people named, Karen in this case, as one......If you had a daughter named Karen, would this trend not bother you?

then there will be true freedom after our lives, well for some, some will just stubbornly repeat it over and over.

I understand your points and I respectfully disagree. I don't think there's anything wrong or hateful about exposing malicious persons neither do I feel sorry for them. Every action has a reaction. Be polite and respectful to others and you'll never have to worry about anyone recording you.

You should assume you are being recorded anytime you step outside your home as you likely are and act accordingly. People recording things is for proof and is legal. If people choose to show themselves as racist, bigoted, vile and any number of other vices including criminal ones in a public arena they should know it is likely being caught on film.

I am grateful for the filming of atrocious behavior. People, including the cops, can’t talk their way out of something and lie when there is proof. You lost your job, racist lady? Oh well. Everyone is responsible for their own shitty behavior. Would you believe half the stories out there without the filming of it? Many would not.

Maybe the government should record everyone all the time. That way poor behaviour never needs to go unchecked again.

I was with you for a minute, but that's apples to oranges, she was literally trying to portray him as a criminal when nothing had transpired. He should have allowed that to happen? Gone to jail so she wouldn't have a "bad" day? Without the video, he likely would have, no one would have believed him (at least not anyone in charge at the moment).

I'm referring to the comments made by the above posters who are grateful when any bad behaviour is caught on camera.

By that logic, wouldn't it be beneficial to catch all bad behaviour on camera?

Like @PreciousNickia said, if you're polite and respectful, you'll never have anything to worry about.

I know of this word but the first time coming across this information.

This is the first time I heard it in this context too. Same with the term "Urban" (in the other Thread.)

Same here.. 'Karen', 'Urban' and add 'deepstate' to that list of new words I have recently learned due to being holed up due to the pandemic.

I think it is a case of what sort of sites you frequent, news you digest, and who you spend your time communicating with.

There's always one very important thing missing from these videos: context.

Nailed it! Context.

I was on Reddit a few days ago (been away for 8 years) and was dumbfounded to see the same video being repurposed by various ideoligists & groups to 'prove' their point.

None of them used the original unedited video (not hard to find doing a bit of keyword searching) because it didn't fit the narrative they were pushing.

Now that you are talking about these things, your country must be a very fun place. We're always talking about religion and politics just to keep it fresh hostilities between us in Turkey. When we stop talking about these two issues, we turn to the hijab issue. The hijab issue has been so much debated that the "turbanlı fantezisi" eventually emerged. It's dreaming of a girl in hijab to have sex.

Mia Khalifa? :-P

I'm not advocating for her behaviour.

I'm just wondering if you want to live in a world where, at any moment, your own mistakes and slip-ups could be posted online for all to judge and mock.

Was her behaviour acceptable? No. Was there a much better way to deal with it? Big time.

Posting that vid online probably saved his life, giving the interactions of rogue police with black men as seen online recently! The video online means they couldn't arrest (and possible George Floyd) him on her account of anything to do with her.

Anybody who puts the life of others at risk through deliberate lies deserves everything that comes as a direct result of what they did.
