Its a nice name but i checked using the link we all use to determine renewal fees and if it is $1,750 per year that is a lot of money and i think that there are better names left for less money.

Tell me the renewal checker is wrong please!.

Sorry but i think it is to much. just my opinion of course and no offence meant in any way at all, i wish you the best of luck with it.

I might be wrong but I thought the renewal was $1,000, if it's really $1,750 then I know why I went for another one :)
The name is excellent, no doubt about that. The renewal fee is indeed high, if .tv keeps on getting more popular then you have no problem and it's worth it.

Hello everyone! Maybe I can give you some interesting information. I Live in Hawaii, born and raised, and am 25% Hawaiian. Of all the Hawaii names that were available Maui.tv may be the most popular. I looked at what was available as far as premiums go, for the money I think it was too much. $1750 is a whole lot for this name IMO. It is a very nice name, do not get me wrong. I think it is worth more than a one time $1750 price tag, but if you have to renew it over and over, I think it is way too much. In comparison Waikiki.tv is only $1000 - considering waikiki is the most famous part of Hawaii by far it was possibly the best buy. I have waikikibeach.tv which is a normal regfee and the only reason I did not buy waikiki.tv. Let me give you a run down of the islands. Most popular and inhabited by far is Oahu - still available. This is where I live, there is a bustling high end economy catering to Japanese tourists with boutiques like Gucci, Prada, Christian Dior and many many more. Oahu has undergone an amazing period of growth only rivaled by the hayday of the 1950's. It features an amazing strip in Waikiki that has been torn down 80% and rebuilt from scratch. There is even a brand new TRUMP tower going up that is beyond luxurious right in the middle of Waikiki. Hawaii is in the middle of an economic boom. Especially Oahu and Waikiki. In the last 2 years over 10 high rise buildings have gone up that are so architechurally impressive, only Dubai has more high rise construction happening at the monent. This period of growth is the perfect opportunity to make money on Hawaii domains. Of course it would be much easier to sell them here. Second is Maui, it far and away the most popular Hawaiian tourist destination from North America. This is why you see the high overture in US. Maui has the most timeshares. Many American families own timeshares for vacations. IMO the best buy for $1750 may have actually been TIMESHARE.TV - very ironic. Maui has a mix of counrty atmosphere with the everday conveniences you have come to expect. It is beautiful and it has a enough shopping to satisfy and just a touch of night life. In many folks opinion Maui is the best for vactioning. I have to say, finding an enduser in Maui or Hawaii may be a little difficult. You may have to find a North American company located outside of Hawaii. Folks in Hawaii are notoriously cheap. Most are struggling to make ends meet, its hard to make a decent living here and most businesses here do not see the advantage of haveing a great domain name. IMO you will get stuck reselling it to another domian speculator. Which is ok if you arent greedy. If it was a $500 renewal I would say WOW great buy. But at $1750 it was a big gamble. IMO if you want to turn a great profit you have to find one of those timeshare developers or any major land developer and start pitching yourself to them, they will never actively search out your name, they will just name the website after their property developments. No doubt it is a great name, best of luck findig an end user,

Marlowe

Hello!
Thanx for the detailed answer :)

My gf happens to be Japanese, so before buying this i asked her in brief about Maui and Oahu(thats the island i m referring in my previous post for the 'cheap' reg fee).
She said Oahu is flooded mostly by Japanese tourist and that Maui has American ones.
She also said that Japanese tend to visit Maui more easily than the Americans visit Oahu. I believe that American market(timeshare related or not) is more friendly when it comes to domains and reselling so it has one more plus for me to buy this one.

I didnt buy this just to resell. I ll try to put some money in and develop it so it reaches popularity itself. I dont expect to make some money from the 1st year, i see it like a deep in time investment and why not, a website where i can get some money from. Of course as i posted before if i get a great offer i will consider selling as i make profit from reselling and not developing.

As you said its risky but progress is not made if u dont risk.

For now i will leave it parked and see what traffic it has and then i build up one cms i ve found and get my way from there.

PS: i d love to send you some questions regarding Maui when i start developing this.

Thats interesting! You are in Greece and your gf is from Japan? My gf is from Japan too. Though she is Korean with a spicy temper :!:

Its good that you target American traffic IMO. You will have the most opportunity for resale.

Maui.tv is a great LLLL.tv that is also an amazing tourist destination in America. What more can you say.

best of luck :!:

Nice purchase. Both Maui and Waikiki have been on my hit list for awhile. Great destinations, imo. I agree with DomainAcrobat regarding the steep renewal fee on Maui, nonetheless if you have a good business around the domain you should do fine as in the grand scheme of things it will be a small price to pay for a strong destination keyword. On a flipping perspective it is risky, imo but you never know right:)

WOW - Alot has happened since I left!
I just got back form the beach... Yes it was Waikiki LOL

Lots of Surf today, though I was just hanging out with my gf.
Got a nice tan!

I did not mean to spur a Hawaii buying spree or anything. :) Now let me shine a little more light on your purchase!

Waikiki - Home to the sport known as surfing. Most popular and known spot in Hawaii. Majority of the visitors are Japanese. I am born and raised in Hawaii so I have personally witnessed the massive changes over the years. Lets jump back just 7 years ago - Waikiki is aging hot spot infested with hookers, transvestites, drug addicts and rundown cheap housing. Slowly but surely they have completely removed the bad element from Waikiki by demolishing the biuldings they were living in. This is part of the reason for the revitalization. They also refurbished all of the streets and widened sidewalks with nice stonework, green grasss and ponds everywhere. Police presence is very strong now and crime is actually not high anymore in Waikiki aside from the drunk fights, and DUI's. With all this rebuilding came things like Sunset on the beach which is a permanent 30ft movie screen which shows movies for free at night. I have never seen such a constant flow of tourists in my life. They come in the off season and streets are just as crowded. Hawaii used to depend on the summer time but traffic is constant now. I cant begin to eplain how nice Waikiki is now. The boutiques on Kalakaua Avenue are 100 times nicer than Rodeo Drive. I used to live in LA and I have been there several times. The Duty Free Store is so huge there is a 25 ft tall aquarium with sharks that has a stairway running through it so you can walk right into it. Then across the street they completely tore down all of the boutiques and just put up new buildings - it is insane right now. Several buildings are cutting edge of design, here is a link that may give you an idea:

http://www.shopwaikiki.com/Html/Revitalization/gallery-01.htm

This is just one block of Waikiki. There are many, many other construction projects occuring. It is truely in the middle of revitalization. If you need some more info or ideas please feel free to PM me.

Best of luck,
Marlowe

Thanks Marlowe,

Makis 77,

I am so sorry, I didn't mean to hijack your thread. My sincere apologies.......if anyone would like to continue to discuss Waikiki, please PM me or start a new thread........

I think as most have already commented, Maui is a little on the expensive side, but if you are looking to develop, it is not an isue, and if you are ok to hold long term, then that is not a problem either.

Best of luck with your name :)

James

I was in Waikiki in 1990 Acrobat Greatest week of my life by far , I remember all these American girls ( who were hookers) would walk the street and ignore Americans until the Japanese were off the street then One Girl asks"Do you wanrt a date?" I said I seen you a few times tonight you never said a word. She was like have to wait til the Japaneses are off the street they tend to go to bed earleier and will pay 10 times what an American will for a date. I was like well I will pay 0 so 10 times 0 is 0 she was not amused. I also noticed they charged the Japanese more a dude marked up a sweat suit 10 times I said that said $100 not $1000 he was like who cares they do not even look at the price tag and he pocketed the difference it was totally crazy. But it was greatest week.

I think you all got great domains, lots of Travel videos on Hawaii you can use to help build a site and get things going with developing your domain could be totally cool.

Makis77,

Maybe I should leave you with some information too. :)

You should put up a me.tv site and put up some videos for now.

Jaws - One of the Largest Surfing spots in the world. You can get alot of footage that would really make people interested.
example:
http://www.metacafe.com/watch/286611/sunset_session_jaws_maui/

The two main cities on Maui are Kihei and Lahaina. They are on opposite sides.

You may recall tv show called Living Lahaina on MTV recently. If you need to get content you should start with Jaws, then Lahaina, then Kihei.

Best of Luck,
Marlowe
