I was thinking that if enough of you are interested, a Sealed High-Bid Auction thread could be created.
The idea is basically to gather some .mobi domains for sale in one thread and have it opened for a predetermined amount of time. During that time, bids will be placed on the items by submitting the bids to the organizer. No bidder will know the bid of any other participant. The highest bidder will win the domain (basically a silent auction).

Would this work or not?

A Silent Auction.

I was thinking about this last night too and was going to start a thread on it. I think it's a good idea as long as the sellers can set a reserve. If the reserve is not met seller has the option of relisting for a lower reserve. We could have one a week.

Or instead of trying to limit it to one per week, we could just have a running thread that lists the current domains up for silent auction, along with their ending dates. Other posts to the thread could be discouraged, with help from the moderators... :?

The thread may end up looking like the mobi names for sale thread, hard to find stuff. Think of it...page after page after a while. I think one sticky thread a week is better with a set end time in the title of the thread clearly stating the auction dates and end time.

True...

It would be hard to moderate and some people might not trust the auctioneer/host with maybe removing some high bids or something, or places false bids.

But we can give it a try I guess and see how it goes maybe.

Maybe we could sweet talk :xf.love: -db- into accepting bids? He's the most trust-worthy here. Then again he may have too much on his plate as it is.

Once the names are sold, the prices paid for them will be made public, so I don't see how it could be manipulated. The host will not be allowed to bid on the names, obviously.

I'm happy to help out anyway I can. Just let me know when (or if) you need me.

Should be fun! :)

Excellent! -db- I think once we start a thread you may get bombarded with PMs! :guilty:

You are right. Does everyone want this format though? I think maybe -db- could start the thread, that way he can also update the bids and also make it a Sticky! And how many names do we start with? If too few, not enough variety.

Sure, I could make a sticky thread, and keep all the bids updated (etc.) no problem.

I'm flexible, and can do it however the majority agrees.

Your wish is my command. :)

gou, iNod, anyone have suggestions or ideas? Do we all want to submit our names to -db- now? When he has more than ten or fifteen we could start...what say you?

I could toss in 5 or so LLL.mobis...

The problem would be lack of buyers IMO.
The reserve should be very reasonable to encourage bids. We don't want people asking $x,xxx for ThisDomainSucks.mobi.
I would also say 10 domains max per auction for the same reason.

Go for it, or if -db- is busy, I wouldn't mind doing it.

But how would this work? We submit our names they list them and he (auctioneer) takes in bids sealed and talks them over with the seller? He than does the whole escrow thing?

I don't think there's any "talking over" to be done. The highest bidder will be told to contact the seller.

So, the seller says what he is expecting and it is all up to the auctioneer to receive the bids and contact the seller after a period of time? Or when the bid receives the (reserve) or what do we have in mind for that part?

The auctioneer's job would be to:
1) Collect Bids
2) Post the highest bid for each item during the auction (if that's how we want to do it)
3) Notify the highest bidder to contact the seller if the reserve is met at the end of the auction
