I uploaded some jpgs (used both FTP client and Dir Admin) into a file and they aren't resolving and am getting a 404 error. The same file has some that I uploaded yesterday that do resolve. I modified them w/ a photo editor, (ACDSee "Canvas") that has it's own .cvx ext, but resampled and saved as jpg.
Any known issues about photo editors messing w/ photo files.

When I pull the jpg up in Preview, (Mac OS reader), i get the image. However, when I was pulling up the same files from inside my FTP client, I was getting Binary Txt readings and not the image. Anyone know what might be happenning?

Can your server handle those type of files?

Yes. They were jpg files. The .cvx is an app ext (similar to psd), but after editing the pix, I converted to jpg and they open up w/ the jpg ext.

My FTP was uploading in binary mode. I switched up and uploaded w/ Direct Admin to see if that would make a diff, but still am getting a 404. The same folder has jpgs that I uploaded yesterday and they resolve using the same path, (jpg files name being the only difference). My guess is that they somehow got corrupted by the photo editor, but if that were the case, I wonder why they open up correctly, as images, on my machine?

Which FTP client do you use?

If it is Ws FTP or some other gui make sure that you set transfer to binary or auto transfer and not ascii.

It was probably just trying to open the file with notepad instead of selecting an image viewer.

What happens when you view the images through a browser?

I deleted/flushed out all of my image files and image folders/subfolders for the domain acct, cleared my browser cache and created new folders on the server, re-uploaded the image files and all is resolved(ing). I don't know what the deal was. I was copy pasting the url straight from the FTP log and later, from the Direct Admin log to test- so no room for typos, and an image that I uploaded yesterday would resolve while the one that I uploaded today, in the same folder would give me a 404 error when trying to pull it up.. :-/

I use CuteFTP. I've used other clients before and know that there are some quirks that pop-up from time2time. I uploaded in Auto-Detect, Binary and MacBinary modes and got the same results.

Yep. My version of cute doesn't have a selection for what app will read the file. On the server side, it pulls up ASCI. On the local side, it pulls up my default reader. I alternate my graphic ext defaults between Preview/Browser/Editor, depending on my mode ATM.

Now I see them. One interesting quirk I noticed, when assigning a default app to open the files, IE, Opera and Safari are supported, but Firefox, my main browser, is "greyed out" and unavail to set as a default app. :|

check .jpg and .JPG
I did have both. I rechecked and when I reuploaded, they still have low and up case, but now they work.
How would that make a diff? Are browsers case sensitive w/ exts?
