Yah, Jay confirms this on his blog. Auction extended until the 10th.

Frankly, I am shocked Dad(.)net wasn't accepted! That would have been one of the best names listed imo. Any idea why it wasn't?

This is looking to be one tough auction, and won't come close to the results of the last one Jay held. The crazy new rules scared too many I think. From my perspective, asking the domain owners to go down 10%, 20%.....or whatever, after the end of the auction is rediculous. One of my names that sold AFTER the last auction ended, was sold for 10k HIGHER than the reserve I had on it during the auction. I had all the leverage for negotiating, and the buyer knew it. I told him I wanted 20k more than the reserve, and we met in the middle.

Had these rules applied for the last auction, I would have lost 17k just by default. Not exactly chump change!

Good luck to those who have names in the auction!

Any thoughts on this?

Have any of you been following the auction blog postings on DomainTools? It seems that DT removed a bid on Capitalization.Com, so it could increase the reserve because apparently the seller "didn't know how to change the reserve when they submitted the domain". This was upping the reserve after the auction had started, and after one bid had been received. All done without even a courtesy email to the bidder to let them know what was going on.

Have any of you heard of this sort of thing happening with an auction before? Even ebay doesn't allow this, a seller there cannot modify a listing once it's started, only cancel it. The original bidder on Capitalization.Com is understandably very ticked off, and seems to indicate they will no longer be bidding on any more domains.

Any thoughts on this and how DT could have handled this differently?

I haven't really been following the blog posts ... but last I checked, there were some domains that had reserve bids (highlighted in yellow), IMHO. Are they now saying that there were reserve bids placed on domains that were in yellow, and then removed?

Something seems amiss, I must admit. :|

Eh... I would have thought they would have clearly refined the process on the 2nd time around.... But its still just not looking pretty.... (BTW Jeff, I thought I asked you to stop posting for a few years).

Agreed (I'm catching up on the blog posts now) ... seems to me, regardless of DT or seller not understanding the very easy reserve guidelines upon submission, that those should not be changed once there are bids on them, IMHO.

I'll stop posting now! :p :notme:

I really don't like the sound of that. Whatever happened to integrity?

I have just had another look at the names on offer - in general "piss poor" would be an apt description for the majority of them. :imho:

I sure hope not... but I expect things to pick up tomorrow! That's when the auction "really" starts! Prebidding just makes some domains stick out, and not all bidders want to do that. ;)

I think its a waste of time. Nearly all buyers are saavy enough not to bid that early on a domain name... Silly tactics.

A couple more with bids... I think Jay totally worded his stuff wrong. He should say the Auction Starts in.... Not Ends in... As I think the Real Auction begins with-in the hour. This will be the time that you can no longer bid on the first auction etc. Then every approx 30 seconds, another one will end.. if there are bids, they will extend.

Have bids:

Grampa.com $2.9K
BuilderLoans.com $1K (mine)
Untrue.com $3K
HivVirus.com $2K
EastTimor.org $350

I've tried multiple times to register for this auction without success. I put in my payment option and phone # five days ago with no call back. The "Bid Eligibility" page has a field asking for a phone number, but no 'submit' button.

I can't bid, I wonder how many other potential buyers have been left out?
