I don't know about you folks, but I have an issue with the 'Domains Wanted' inquiries.

It seems to me that most of those making requests do not bother to acknowledge anyone. Some are very definite about - "gimme me all the details, stats and a price or I won't respond". Well - they don't respond, period.

I have replied to numerous such posts either by PM or direct posting or both.

In very, very few instances is there an acknowledgement or even a general post in the original thread. Some of the conversations are several months old and as new members arrive, they post to them - again without any response whatsoever.

Those who respond have to go through their inventory to pick out names they think might fit and then take the time to post, then never hear another word.

I think common courtesy would dictate a response - even if it's just "no thanks - that won't do".

Am I too demanding?

Just my 2cents.

This is the "key", IMHO:

.. and let's try to work here on some specific language to add to this "Sticky" (with respect to active time periods, replies to threads, dated requests, "rules", etc.)

Good points domainusi. I discontinued going to that board, because of the problems you mention.

In some instances, I even suspect some posters, (polite form of trolls, as being used here), use the Wanted board as a means of creating a DB or for stimulating and spawning ideas for names, rather than as a means of actually acquiring them. Goes w/ the territory, I suppose. On the off chance that any of those posters got caught at their game, (ie a recently registered, suspiciously similar name is noticed by a seller), it would definitely impact their standing in the community. Hopefully, that would act as a bit of a deterrent to their unethical behavior. And even more hopefully, there is not alot of this activity going on.

I agree, however, for example my experences I get a overweliming amount of PM's and I can understand not replying to everyone of them just to say no thanks. Maybe I should start.

These antics along w/ some of the problems involved w/ posting lists at the expired board perturb me to the point where it is healthier for me not to participate, or participate fully at these boards, which is probably the reason for my outspokedness here. Thanks for hearing my vent.

i am sure we can be guilty of both ways. i sometimes have a sent a lenghty pm about some stuff but there's no response!!

and if you have lots of PM...what a heck to reply!!.....i guess the current "receipt read" and no response means "thanks, but no thanks"

a few problems. well, domainsusi, while I echo your complaints about those who post in the wanted domains section and then vanish, there are a few problems.
I've thought about this a bit... I am almost invariably on the side of the people who respond to a wanted ad and then see neither hide nor tail of the guy who wanted the domains in the first place.
BUT, there are a few things. When you post a wanted ad, on some forums more than others, you ALWAYS get PMed totally unrelated domains, spam, people quoting prices like $50,000 for domains like wildpoopfarming.com, and people giving you lists of 200-300 domains that "fit perfectly". It's hard to blame a potential buyer for not responding to every PM because of this.
Still, I think common courtesy would dictate that if someone sends you a PM in response to your wanted ad - that has all the elements of what you asked for (price, subject-related, traffic, etc, whatever), then it would certainly be polite and expected to return that PM - whether it be yea or nay. You can't force anyone to do so though.

I agree. It seems sometimes I have people still PM me after I said I found a domain or they PM domains they don't have the information I requested

Then you could list "x" number of members to receive a response. Only down side would be potential spam i guess.

Or we could make that feature available from xxx posts up (three digits) in order to discourage spamming practices.
