BitTorrent users in the US have just lost another popular public BitTorrent tracker site with ISOHunt's recent announcement that it has decided to begin blocking access by US visitors effective immediately.

Jacqueline Chooljian, a federal judge for the Central District of California in Los Angeles, ruled back in May that TorrentSpy had to begin tracking users' activity on the site despite that fact that there was no existing mechanism to do so and that the action in itself would violate its clearly defined privacy policy.

Rather than violate user privacy, TorrentSpy decided to simply cut loose the US and leave it to its own devices. ISOHunt, faced with similar legal wranglings as TorrentSpy, decided to follow a similar path and cut loose the US as well.

Keeping in mind that there are many legitimate uses for using P2P and Torrents, I find this invasion of privacy somewhat creepy.

That really is sad. Where else will any of us (non-US) get all the good stuff!

I got that. For a second there I just assumed the US users were the ones with all the really good download material (seeders).

Yup, welcome to the world of tracking devices via the net. I wondered how Google is able to get out of the privacy act. Since if you opt in when logging in to your gmail. Google can track your searches via their SE. Maybe they do not get hit with a law suit cause no one cares. Or Google provides an opt in for SE tracking.

If they bother about it they would had remove lot from their search, torrents, porn, weapons , drug sites etc. Even in youtube they just remove the video only if someone ask them to.

Some people do complain to Google. I came across it once where Google explained that the images from the site was removed from Google image search (results) because Google was accused of infringing copyright laws.
