I have heard that Google counts links from social sites like twitter. When I tweet about a page on my site and link to it can it increase my rankings in the searchengines like Google>Does anyone have experience with this?

Twitter is really good only for driving traffic to your site.
Providing you have plenty of followers and that they also retweet your tweets about your website.
As for seo?
Nada, says matt cutts of google.

Bottom line?
There is much to to this than just tweeting out your site.
Delve into hashtags, retweets, the text used in tweets, etc etc etc

According to SEO experts, Social Media signals such as twitter does not contribute to ranking but they are indexed. So, even if they do not contribute to your key word ranking, they do drive lots of traffic to your site.

Valuable advice as always. Though with the recent collabo of Google and Twitter I do expect to see the actual tweets having more impact (not just the accompanied hashtags and RTs). Funny how people always read between the lines and immediately jumped to revive their long forgotten Twitter accounts, as if that would do instant magic (just like they jumped into SSLs when they heard about HTTPS being a ranking signal).

Anyways, here is some info for the ones that haven't heard yet: http://www.cnbc.com/id/102401275

Note to those that say twitter drives traffic to your site.
No, twitter does not drive traffic to your site.
As I said earlier, it depends on how many followers you have who actually click on your link.
It depends on how many retweets you get, and how many who see the retweet click on your link.
So just tweeting out your link does not equate to traffic at all.

SEO experts who say twitter drives traffic to your site without what I said?
They are NOT seo experts!
But wannabees from India or somewhere.

It CAN drive traffic to your site, it isn't a magic bullet.

As for SEO - Google hasn't had access to twitter's live tweet feed since their mutual deal expired in 2011, however, they just signed a new one. The previous deal powered "real time search" from I think around 2008 or 2009 to 2011. During that time, tweets were indexed and searcheable. After it expired, Twitter was fairly meaningless for SEO

It remains to be seen how they implement the data this time around.

PS - where someone's from has no bearing on their SEO knowledge or lack thereof - let's please be respectful.
