.tv Is .tv WHOIS Updated Immediately or is There a Lag?

About an hour or so ago, I hand-regged a dropped (9/25) .tv domain, but the WHOIS hasn't been updated yet.

It's in my registrar account and registrar WHOIS, but doesn't seem to in the general WHOIS yet.

I did receive a "Congratulations" confirmation email, and I have access to the domain through my panel (forwarding, CNAMES, etc.), but something doesn't feel right. Also, my forwarding hasn't resolved yet. It shows that goofy Verizon page or a broken link.

Is .tv WHOIS slow to resolve (and I'm being impatient), or should I be worried?

I ask this because other regs (.com. .me, etc.) have gone through immediately.

Thanks!

You have two issues here: WHOIS propagation and DNS propagation. In my experience it can take anywhere from an hour to 24 hours for both to complete.

Nothing to worry about, unless the domain fails to resolve sometime tomorrow.

Thanks, Microguy.

My info is not reflected yet, but now the WHOIS shows my registrar and the title of my website. It still resolves to a broken link.

I normally don't get all anal about the domains I reg, but I've been following (stalking is more like it :) ) this one for the past week, waiting for it to drop, and when it showed available today, I couldn't believe it. (I hand reg my domains--I don't have the tech know-how to snag them with drop tools.)

I'll keep checking, and if it doesn't resolve tomorrow, I'll call tech support.

When the domain fully resolves (or turns out to be a mistake), I'll let you know what it is.

Again, thanks.

UPDATE:

The redirect has resolved, but the WHOIS has not yet.

Will let you know when it does.

I'm pretty sure I was just being paranoid.

It's a darn good domain, at least for my purposes.

Final update.

All is well now. The WHOIS is resolving.

The domain is Snark.tv.

For now it redirects to Snark.me

I think I will be able to put this domain to good use.

http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/snark

"Snark is a site dedicated to humor and otherwise snarky content. This site is not affiliated with any of the other major humor sites on the internet but is simply a renegade with its own issues.

The purpose of this website...well, there is no real purpose other than for the webmaster to snark and rant about the state of the world, which, frankly, doesn't (at the moment) look too promising--might as well get some digs in before we all blow ourselves up and away."

I did know the dictionary meaning but felt sure it must of stood for something else online for the poster to be keen to grab this name.
Is it just a disctionary word .tv or am i missing something?

Not that i am saying there is anything wrong with this buy, i'm just a little confused to why you were so keen on getting it. (i'm easily confused after many years of drinking too much of Scotland's National Drink, Irn Bru that is)

My guess is since the OP already owned snark.me (a dev site), she wanted the .tv to expand on her snark holdings. Now have another drink Scottie.

You're right, Microguy.

At some point I may want to develop a streaming TV presence for Snark.tv, which is a combination of the snide with sarcasm. And snark as a verb is rapidly gaining acceptance, which is why I was keen on nabbing Snark.me back in August (I hand regged this domain). I'm approaching my business plan as wanting to help set a trend, not follow current trends, simply because those trendy domains are long gone or way out of my financial league. Major "snark" TLD's have been gone for years, another indicator that I may be on to something. The previous owner of Snark.tv also envisioned a streaming TV site presence, but probably got sidetracked and most likely decided that the domain was a bit too pricey to just park for ppc and maintaining the expense of renewal.

The term snark was first coined by Lewis Carroll (author of The Adventures of Alice in Wonderland) in his poem "The Hunting of the Snark." Up until the last decade or so, snark was simply an archaic term coined by a 19th century writer and was largely confined to the literary and academic world, but then the internet changed everything. Snark, especially among young artists and writers, has been revived and become popular again.

If you Google "Snark," you will see over 3,000,000 hits and tons of lively snark websites. I personally love reading and writing biting humor, so this seems like a natural fit for me.

I have also regged Snarkosphere.com and Snarksphere.com--neither term garners a lot of hits, but I see this as an inexpensive way to try my skills as a possible trend setter. For this, I envision a sort of an online Snark Directory. So I'm not seeing this snark enterprise as being a flipping opportunity, but as a developing one.

So, mckennaronnie, I don't see your question as being at all "cheeky" (nice British term). It's a valid question, one that I am happy to answer.

:)
