Hey! I've got a problem here that I want you guys to help me with. It's actually nothing to do with the computer, so here's the problem:

Every so often I go to Waffle House to get my self some food. They give me the food like they're supposed to, but then, they don't give me my receipt. I ask them kindly for it, and they say, "Yes, hold on." Then, they take another receipt sheet, tear off the bottom of it where the total is, and just hand me my total! I don't know the amount of money I paid for the food, taxes, and stupid take-out fees or whatever.

The very first time I went to Waffle House, I asked to see the receipt that the woman was holding that was mine before she threw it away (I didn't know she was going to throw it away), and I looked at the calculations, and what do you know? They added an extra dollar for me. I pointed it out, and she says "Oops, got my ones carried away there, hehe." Ok, that's fine.

Next time I went: Oops! Same thing! (added extra dollar)

So now, I'm not getting my *whole* receipt, and I don't know if I'm getting ripped off or not. The very last time I went there, I just looked at the menu, added up how much everything cost me, and the total looked within reason that time (I don't think there was an extra dollar). But who knows? They could have added extra cents or something, I don't know. They probably just remembered my face and didn't want to mess with me.

By the way, all this time I've only been going to the same Waffle House, not a bunch, so there are the same people I always see.

So what I'm wondering is: Is there a law in the government that states that a company must ALWAYS give out a receipt if asked for? I'm pretty sure it's the law to give them out (the WHOLE thing). What they are doing I think is wrong, and should be stopped. Now, I don't want to jump to any wrong conclusions that they're doing this to EVERYone, but two times was enough for me.

Any suggestions?

EDIT: Oops, sorry, but I forgot to mention that when I ask them for my WHOLE receipt, they say: sorry, it's our policy not to give them out. WHAT THE HELL?? You can't give out receipts?! I must say, something's wrong here...

I am pretty sure if you ask for a full receipt with the information and pricing they should have to give it to you...but what do I know?

Hehe, I just edited my first post before you replied. I do ask them for it, but they say it's against their policy :|

At the very least, they have to tell you exactly what you paid them for, whether it's verbally, hand-written, or printed receipt. You paid the money, you as a consumer have the right to know exactly what you're paying for and what the individual costs are.

YES! I know that! But THEY don't! And they're not letting me have my receipt... and I'm not just gonna ask them to READ off the original receipt... I want to KEEP it, take it home, and MAKE sure the pricing is right until the end of my days.

I don't know whether there's a law or not but it sure does sounds like some shady math is taking place! >:(

Before anything else... fair warning... I have a rule and that's I never mess with people who are messing with my food! D-: So, whatever you do .... be nice to these people! Let them know you need an "itemized" receipt for your accounting... Accountant... taxes.... expense report...take your choice! :tu:

Good luck!

Lyte

EDIT: I find it highly unlikely that they can refuse to give you a receipt if you ask for one! That needs to be investigated!

Of course it's legal :D It's a free country, do whatever you want ;) Don't like it? Make your own waffles =)))

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
That's what waffle house thinks probably. I doubt it's half legal.

It's not legal to rip off your customers... they get a LOT of customers in one day. Let's say they get 100 customers in one day, that's getting 700 ripped off dollars in a week, 2,800 in a month, 33,600 dollars in a year. Especially from the unsuspecting customers, because no one cares about their receipt anymore

Correct! I work at Wendy's and if the customer asks for the receipt, we have to give it to them (We only give receipts to drive-thru customers unless otherwise asked). I wonder why Waffle House doesn't give out receipts. :|

I'm sure that there is a law though... I'm gonna find a site that has all state laws, I'm gonna find the law, and I'm gonna print it, and I'm gonna get myself some food (hehe), and when they don't give me my receipt, I'm going to wave the paper in their face...

That'd actually be pretty funny.

It makes no sense??? A receipt is a document, or a "little contract" that confirms you received services rendered... whether that be food, tires, or whatever else you're buying at the time.

It's so important that some restaurants in my area have signs that say "If you don't get a paper receipt, your order will be free." That's to avoid being ripped off by the cashiers/servers/employees.

IMHO, they are scamming you. I'd call their headquaters and find out what their policy is, and also tell them about your previous experiences.

Firstly, whats a waffle house? Does it sell just waffles? Never been to one and never seen one in England, lol.

But more importantly, certainly in the UK, you have a right to a receipt and cannot be refused one especially if you ask.

Waffle House is just a regular restaurant that sells waffles, omelets, eggs, hash browns, salad, and other breakfast stuff.

...boy I hope that didn't sound like advertising for them lol... THEY WILL BURN IN HELL... jk.

What about those psychos that DEMAND that they get a receipt for their nerdy billing purposes. Do they tell them to go eat it?

That's exactly what I was thinking too.... a receipt is not a total, it's everything that you paid for with the details on it, including date and other things of this sort. I'm guessing they do this on purpose because if someone wants to sue them for doing it... NO PROOF!

No idea lol... I'm not really that type of guy to make a big deal. But if something is REALLY bothering the crap out of me, I won't be hesitant at all to do whatever possible about it (as long as it is within law :D).
