    Hi guys,

I am really new to domaining. I purchased a domain last week. This morning I got the following email offering to buy the domain for $55, 000:

    Hello!

I represent a buyer from Japan who wants to purchase xxxxxxxxxxxxxx for a new web project.

I've found your address via WHO IS.

My client is interested in purchasing your domain. If it's still for sale please get back to me.

He offers a good price. If it's not enough please let me know.

I'm working with many investors in Japan. If you have other names please email me the list.

    Best regards,

    Yuko Kitano

    Domain Broker

    CPI Hosting Inc.

    Phone: 816776495331

I have done some searches to check if the email is showing as a spammer and nothing is appearing.

So the question is, do you think this email genuine? And how do I respond to determine that it is?

If anyone has had any experience with this I is would appreciate some help.

    Many thanks.

I hope that I am wrong, but it might be a so called appraisal scam?! Did you add a price anywhere?

I didn't add any kind of price. They mentioned the amount.

Yes, it's a scammer. Yesterday received the same email, word by word.

You will get swamped with spammers and frauds if you don't use privacy. That mail is almost certainly an appraisal scam. or it is harvesting email addresses to sell to the hosting and design spammers. Confirmed addresses are worth a lot more.

That makes my very suspicious. You can make a search for ”appraisal scam” on this forum if you are not aware of this phenomenon. I am sure that other forum members can give you further advices.

It doesn't explicitly mention an appraisals. But that's what it will become, if you ever reply to this email. Somebody else said they already received the same message. A sure sign it's a scam, whether it be an appraisal scam, or somebody harvesting genuine email addresses. You should put that message in your spam box.

Its a scam. They want you to buy an appraisal. Not a real offer.

    Thanks Kenny,

I am slowly going through the site as a total newbie. The site and everyone on here has been fantastic. I am discovering things all the time but was shocked/surprised to receive the email. I had no idea such practices occurred so was a little skeptical but wasn't sure, just in case. Glad I asked on here.

Thanks everyone for setting things straight.
