There have been more than 2 million registrations of new gTLDs so far.
Of these, .XYZ has the maximum registrations followed by .BERLIN, .CLUB and .GURU.
However, almost 80 percent of them are parked.
.XYZ has 93.63 percent domains parked while .BERLIN has 83.25 percent parked domains.

Interestingly, the domains in the top 10 with least number of domains parked proportionally are .PHOTOGRAPHY(63.19%), and .EMAIL(65.23%) while .WEIN and .WEBCAM have lowest proportion of parked pages with 53.94 and 47.27 percent respectively.
Is this an indicator of future success??

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
With parking rates so high you call that a success ?
Over the last 6 months .com has grown by 2 millions units.
Also, keep in mind that some TLDs have inflated figures: freebies or domains held by the registry itself (or a dedicared 'spin-off' corporation).
And we have yet to see end users advertising and using their URLs prominently.
What's holding them up ?

If you are quoting that numerology from ntldstats, no. Measuring web usage and development in TLDs is a complex business and ntldstats was just jumping on the bandwagon after Verisign announced a survey. Of course the HosterStats surveys were first. Verisign's usage categories were based on the rather iffy Eurid "surveys" of 5000 domains per TLD.

This link has a good explanation (in the comments) of what a web usage survey involves.

This is a real web usage and development survey of .BERLIN:

As you can see, it is far more complex than the simplistic stuff from ntldstats.

The .PHOTOGRAPHY gTLD usage is also more complex and it is showing development patterns that are ordinarily seen near the end of the first year of operation.

It has had a surprising uptake and some of its registrants are using the domain to point to their existing websites or photography projects.

The .XYZ gTLD has been damaged by the robo-registrations and the majority of those are parked on PPC.

As Sdsinc mentioned above, the advertising issue is a problem for the new gTLDs. They are just not advertising and the end-users are largely unaware that the new gTLDs exist.

Verisign's figures are accurate but there needs to be clarification on what constitutes a business website. Most business websites are brochureware and are often left without being updated for a year or so. However if one uses a narrower definition of a business site (a site with a shopping cart and payments system), then the percentage of those sites is lower than ordinary brochureware sites.
