Is this a SCAM??

I picked up a domain name a couple weeks ago that was an expired domain name. I purchased the domain name via GoDaddy and have since had it parked at Sedo until I do something with it.

So a couple weeks go by and then I receive the following email this morning from a Yahoo email address:

"I just wanted to contact you in regards to the xxxxxxxxx.com domain name. It's seems godaddy has had an issue with it. We owned the domain name before and it was to renew automatic. It did renew it, but then it showed you registered it on xx/xx/xx. It seems godaddy messed up with this.

I don't know if you have plans to use the domain, but just wanted to give you a heads up on it. We own the trademark to the name and that does hold rights to the domain name. My lawyer will be contacting godaddy to fix the issue."

Do this sound legit to anyone? Is there anything I should be doing to protect the name? I performed a search on the US PTO website and could not find a trademark for any combination of the keywords in the domain name. I also found it fishy that the email came from a yahoo email address.

Any thoughts or advice??

Thanks for your time!

Tell them to prove it and pay you if they want it.

Sounds like a scam.

I dont think its a scam, so much as someone having not realized they forgot to renew their domain name. I think there doing whatever they can to try and get it back. I would ask for the trademark information for clarification, and let them know Im not in violation of their mark, because I have no intention of using it for the same purpose. (unless of course the domain is TMed, then lawyer up)

send them a link to uspto.gov and ask them where there TM is. Its definitley just some idiot who forgot to renew and they are desperate to get it back. Dont give it to them. Make them pay.

Look at the domain's history, and verify the previous owner. Check them out as the TM holder and such. Should be easy to do.

If you need help, PM me the domain, and I'll look up the history.

I would just sit back and not say a word. If it really was GoDaddy's error, GoDaddy will contact you and let you know. Then you demand something in return from GoDaddy for the error.

If this guy is bullshitting, then he's not even worth your time.

Try looking at it at www.archive.org to see if it was a legitimate or a running website before.
