With Godaddy killing off their 7-day member auctions, is there a need for a new auction service?

If yes, what options would be important?

Please also comment with the marketplaces where you currently have the best success, and why their service works for you.

If you choose no, please comment why you don't think there is a need.

I never used their 7 day auctions either as a seller or a buyer. The main issue with their and other auction platforms is the API. Personally I'd rather there was no way to automate bidding etc and go back old school.

Also I'd love for there to be more live auctions. I remember there being some live auctions here in the old chat box. A live auction service with manual bidding would be exciting.

NameCheap offers auctions,
PorkBun offers auctions,
Namebright auctions (via DropCatch)
Dynadot has auctions (my fave Registrar)

Non-Registrar auctions include DaaZ.

You people are addicted to GoDaddy.

I agree, I also love live auctions.
Not a fan of proxy bids at all

I'm planning to build such a platform, I have already started working on it.

Here's what I plan to do:
- Offer only premium domain auctions to avoid flooding auction listings with boring and domain names that won't sell.

- Charge a yearly subscription to buyers to ensure they are serious about bidding and not create fake accounts either from auctions listers themselves or spammers.

- Charge a small listing fee based on the duration the seller wants to list, this is to make sure they are absolutely sure that they wanna sell it and not just trying to get evaluation by creating listing and taking it down after auction ends and not selling that domain, also to ensure all the auction listings are premium domain. I'm planning to manually review it which takes a lot of time so I want to make sure only serious sellers are listing their domains.

- Offer a commission free auction platform, Unlike the industry standard of 15-10% of domain sale value, I wanna offer it for free to encourage more auction activity from both buyers and sellers. Maybe change it as platform grows but at the beginning, I would love to offer it free of commissions.

- Integrate escrow.com through their API into the platform as it would be difficult to do escrow like service for a small team/single person platform like mine. So there will be escrow fees that the buyer has to pay for escrow.com.

Is there anything else someone would like to see in such platform?
