  • No. Why should I pay $250/year for a 14-character name with 3 Hyphens?

Now that we all know that Golf.tv is a $25/year renewal and Weather.tv is a $100/year renewal, do you believe that the .TV premium pricing system is fair to everyone? And if so, why?

It is a capitalist world and "fair" doesn't mean a whole lot unless you'd like to live in a country where people get paid in food rations and receive your allocation of one pair of workboots every two years. Verisign should simply do whatever they think is best to maximise profits just like domainers should. I do have doubts that the premium pricing does maximise profits though.

That is what I brought up when I met with Enom to pay maybe 3x or 5x upfront and then have a set renewal after that. If I saw a great premium at 5K, might pay 5x or $25,000 upfront and than $50 a year after that if it was set. They agreed that would be a renewal structure someday that would work for all. However, as of right now we have no control over things. Versigin does so we can't worry about what we can't control.

Thanks, Jim

Front-loading 5 to 10 years of renewals into the sales prices would fix the whole screwed up system. A $1000 LLL.tv premium would sell for $5000 and then renew at the standard rate.

These domains (plus thousands more) were acquired using a similar method:

PORN.TV $50/year
SHOPPING.TV $10/year
TRAVEL.TV $50/year
GOLF.TV $25/year
CHINA.TV $25/year
LOVE.TV $25/year
FLIGHTS.TV $50/year
WATCH.TV $50/year
LIFE.TV $50/year
LIVE.TV $25/year
VEGAS.TV $50/year
CANADA.TV $50/year
LIKE.TV $25/year
COMEDY.TV $50/year

In this way, everyone would be paying the same renewal rate, Tulva and Verisign would still get their money, it would eliminate confusion, and sales of premium domains would skyrocket as would the entire extension as a whole. IMO.

That is the ideal situation if they can ever come about.

Wow. Learned a lot just by reading this.

Smash, equity, sneakers, johntv, micro all have excellent posts and couple others.

No easy answer on this I am concluding and its a big cluster if you ask me.

I don't own any pre names as I write this up, however if I drop a few names they would probably be on the list like cheesecakes.tv, toners.tv, bruins.tv.

As far as demand goes, I agree above. Richard is a flipper and that's what he is known for. I don't think its bad, not great either but heck if I had that type of power I would be a flipper as well lol. Trying flip 100 names now and what a joke lol right before the holidays

Bulldog has me thinking and about .tv for end users. Not for domainers. That's an interesting comment he has and makes me think on this. He is right after thinking on this but part of me dosent want to see this. That's part of the reason why moniker won't do a .tv auction is due to this pre pricing issue and verisign. We need both, domainers and end users. Domainers to speculate in .tv and end users building things. Get a nice balance of things.

Having read this and thinking on .tv I need a smoke and finish my starbucks coffee lol. No easy answer to this.

I still believe .tv will do well and continue the course of growth and 08 will be key year. By 2010, 2011 would love to see .tv surpass .net extension. This price factor and future auctions is holding all of us.

I have a lot of .tv names and good for a few months. I continue to buy and hold and beginning sell some, trim my portfolio down some.

Good luck everyone on this. Brain is working now lol as I will be up all night at work.

Cheers

J

i think the question is is how many people would have regd news.tv earlier if they knew that they could get it for $25,000 a year
I think they are working on a haggle systems, sort of like buying souvenirs on vacation.... they offered me crazy.tv for 25000$ and told me the price was negotiable and then they told me a more marketable, sales driven four letter .tv was only 500$ per year and much better price for 10 years, they even had reps call me and send me emails....LOL, they really need some proper leadership and structure at demand media, not some young hot shot who got lucky with a couple of .com websites......
