Microsoft, the world biggest software and video games maker is leading the way for what promise to be the feature silicon valley, Seattle. The trend started in the 70s when Microsoft was born, but since then several companies such as Expedia.com, InSpace, Starbucks, Amazon.com, Onvia, Micron, Infocus, Amgen, Drugstore.com, Unova and BlueNile have also found a home in either Seattle or it vicinity.

Here are some of the stories that have been making the news in the past few weeks:

Starbucks
Starbucks Corp. said it plans to buy two tracts in Seattle's Pioneer Square neighborhood; the 83 King Street building and the adjacent parcels at 505 First Ave. S. for an undisclosed price. Both properties are under contract for purchase, according to Starbucks spokesperson May Kulthol.

Amgen
Amgen will add up to 550,000 square feet of new office and lab space on its site at Pier 89 in Seattle that will have the capacity to house up to 750 new employees.

Jonathan Rose Companies
A New York company launched a "socially responsible" real-estate investment fund with the purchase Wednesday of two old downtown Seattle buildings.

The fund, an affiliate of the Jonathan Rose Companies, bought the 14-story Joseph Vance Building and the adjacent three-story Sterling Building at Third Avenue and Union Street for $23.1 million. The buildings, dating to 1929 and 1910, respectively, were purchased for nearly $191 per rentable square foot from an investor group led by Frederic S. Weiss of Mercer Island, according to county records.

Jobster.com
"We are seeing the hottest technology employment market in the Seattle market in years," Jobster CEO Jason Goldberg said in an email. "Competition for technology workers has increased dramatically over the past six months, with many candidates reporting multiple offers. Large employers such as Microsoft and Google (which is growing its Seattle presence) are now competing aggressively with small startups for tech talent."
