Is Registering a .net safe?

I want to buy a domain (.net) because the .com is already taken. Would there be a problem with me having the .net? The .com name is currently for sale for $1800, which is too expensive for me to buy. The .com seems to have no website or any copyright protection...

What do i do?

That would only be an issue if the name in question had any trademark issues. If it's a generic word/phrase then you should be ok.

You should be fine registering the .net (assuming there are no TM issues). There are many domains that have more than one domain extension registered. For instance, I have www.vip.cc, however, I would not be forced to give my domain up to the guy who had a different domain extension.

In my opinion If it is not going to be a strong trademark issue then registering .net is safe.

Well I think if the .com name is Trademarked or is Copyright protected and you register the .net with the same name, the safety will be determined on how you intend to use that name.

Im sorry its you that i see. But lately i read a forum and the entire forum is the same. In this case its TM, i am not trying to offend anyone or be a jerk, but once you read the first post, read the rest as well. That way we will eliminate junk posts, save namepros some bandwith, and have a nicer looking forum all around. So just please read the entire thread before posting someone else has already posted several times.
