I wanted to find out who owned MacroFlux.com and here is what I found.
http://www.afternic.com/name.php?domain=macroflux.com&ref_id=31680

But the weird thing is I have talked to the seller on afternic many times on the phone. (Nameprodigy)

Probably a marketing idea they are kicking around. If any large company was going into domains for speculation they would do it through an unknown business name so as not to run-up the market --- until they have the names they want. Then they put the parent company brand on it and go to town.

Here is a three word thought that can put everyone who has a nice portfolio of domain names into a dream state:

Yahoo Premium Domains

It comes as no surprise to me. Large companies need names for their brands after all and of course they are no short of marketing ideas ;)

Indeed.

I remember reading somewhere on one of the forums a few years back on how many great generic domains were held by Procter & Gamble, bleach.com, for example.

I'm not sure, but I think they let some of them even drop.

If anybody has that link, or a list, I would love to see it.

The bottomline is that the big guys are just protecting their interests.
Whereas the little guy is a cybersquatter.

I also remember that article! :tu: but it's been a long time... What I haven't forgot, however, is that beautiful.com is owned by P&G and till today this domain is not active.

They're definitely losing a lot of money on PPC revenue :)

They have all their domains listed at GreatDomains.com, apparently they have been listed there for 6 years at least. And the only one I know that sold was flu.com. This came up in another thread.

I'm not sure if Yahoo or Google really take part in domain acquisitions, but just imagine if they did. They get all the inside information on what people are searching for before it's well known to the rest of us. They could just sit there and analyze their search logs and register domains pertaining to heavily search keywords. There are new keywords emerging daily...

Something doesn't add up. Registered to Johnson & Johnson, but for sale by someone on Afternic for $600? Fishy smell. The wordmark is federally registered to Alza Corp., reg#: 2872091

I don't know if Alza Corp. is some subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson.

That is what I thought. The thing is, I have talked to NameProdigy on the phone several times about 2 years ago. I don't get it either?

Maybe you can ask the seller to clarify the ownership... Or email the Admin contact of the domain and ask them to verify whether or not they own the domain and if the person on Afternic is authorized to sell the domain...

Better to get it all straightened out before you throw money at it...

As "- me -" summed it up:

...the big guys are just "protecting their interests."
Whereas the little guy is a "cybersquatter."

It also confounds me that most people seem to see no problem with thousands of little guys doing R&D to come up with great ideas for domain names over the years and register them, but then the big guys come along later, trademark them, start making money off them and then ultimately cry foul against the little guy who regged the names FIRST.

Screw Johnson & Johnson - they didn't invent babies. And the same goes for P&G - they didn't invent bleach.

So give them a link to the listing, I'm sure they'd appreciate the tip on helping them deal with him if he is a scammer.

Maybe they'll toss baby.com your way for the info :)

After looking at the guys other listings, they all seem to be domains he owns, though I didn't check them all. It seems kind of odd that he'd be trying to scam on 1 domain, but who knows... Maybe it was merely an oversight on his part.

Just a note, macroflux.net is available to reg...

I was looking up whois info the other day and noticed that Pfizer was the registrant of a (.us premium) domain that has nothing to do with any product (or potential product) of theirs. I'm not sure how many others they may have.
