Is it safe to buy this domain?

I saw a nice domain at tdnam.com, the domain is short and it is registered since 2003. I googled the domain and found out there are alot of site linking to the domain and it got PR3. Before this the domain is a search directory providing traffic to web sites and selling text links.

1)I was wondering is it safe to purchase this kind of domain?
2)If i start off with this site, is it safe to put AdSense ads into the domain because im not sure whether previously this site is banned from AdSense or not.
3)Is older domain better? Why?

1) Safe ? What do you mean?
2) Safe ? they can only say no, and I thought people were banned from using google ads, not the domain.
3) older domains are sometimes better because they are already linked and in search engines.
