Well where do we start?
ebay tends to be good for cheap domains, by cheap, i mean by buyers standards, this though is not to be confused with being good domains, as many worthless domains sell at a small profit, which is how people make money, selling 20 domains a day in the $10 to $20 region.
Brandables are also a good selling point in an example like this.
Now others prefer to list a somewhat OK domain, maybe worth, lets say $100 tops at a ridiculous price, say $999,000 for instance.
The thinking here seems to be that if someone actually offered $999 thinking they were getting a bargain then you would sell it to them, probably telling them they were robbing you, but your a nice guy, so you will sell it anyway.
Of course there is always the chance (like winning lotto), that someone actually pays the price, and you can then retire, telling everyone how smart you are, being a dot com millionaire and all!
Others just simply waste a listing fee by posting simply useless domains with extensions like WS.com in the hope of offloading it onto someone, just like happened to them, no doubt. This rarely works from what i see.
Another option is you have a bulk group of domains, and you don't want them, therefore selling them all at minimum fees, often good to get rid of bulk garbage.
Many people with good domains, say in the $XXX or $XXXX bracket will not sell their domains on ebay, as most people (on ebay) do not appreciate a good domain, and an auction full of bargain hunters is not going to maximise your end user price possibility. This is to be avoided.
Anyway, that's my take on ebay, I'm sure many more NP's will have there own take on how things work over there, good and bad.
