Recently sold a .net name for $700 (Net profit) at Sedo on the first offer and I keep wondering how it would have done in auction. So yesterday when I get an offer of $237 which is the minimum bid set, I sent this one to auction.

The name is worth much more than $237....If no other bids can I refuse the sale and just keep the name?

The name is (CDL License .net) No hyphens.

The auction will end some time next Friday, I will contact some cdl schools/acadamies and trucking companies over the next few days and give them link.

no, once its placed in auction... you have to sell...

sedo will terminate you're account and the buyer may expose you to the forum...

Sending to auction is the chance you take. Not much help now but if you did not feel happy selling at the min price you should maybe have set it higher or not at all..

Good luck with sale

Dave-

IMHO - if you accepted the offer as good enough to let the auction start, this is just like the reserve being met and you then should allow the name to be sold to the highest bidder.

if you later refuse to sell or transfer, I'm sure you can "get away with it" but it is really a bad thing to do -- too many people do this and no one will have any confidence in auctions - they will be looked at as scams.

After all, isnt it a scam when you meet the reserve, but a 'shill' keeps bidding you up?

My belief is simple - use a BIN price, or a reserve price you can live with, and let the sales happen.

FWIW -- I sell a lot of names at Afternic. I have all but given up on their concept of "closing soon" - it might work for some names, but in my own experience, when I allow an offer to send a name into "closing soon" I almost NEVER get a second bid.

I also believe most people - end-users and domainers - like the BIN feature as it takes away the potential for fraudulent bidding.

So .. my vote is to let the name go for highest bid if you put it into the auction process.

You made a decision you cannot change. It will go to the highest bidder, or YOU are in default of a contract and the sedo TOS.

Make the best of it. Start promoting the hell out of the auction to get more potential bidders. List it in the outside auction listings here and other forums that accept them, send the auction link to potential buyers, make sure the parked page leads to the auction page.

good luck.

I will sell for what ever it's auctioned for, I certainly don't want to do the wrong thing and not live up to my commitment.

I'm sending out the following message to related businesses:::::

CDL LICENSE .net is in auction right now (Reserve Met) ends soon!

And a commercial drivers license is needed to operate certain loaders, bulldozers, all class a, b, and c trucks and vehicles with air brakes.

Not looking too hot with only one bid but comparing it to some of the other names it's not too bad on the number of views......I don't know much about these auctions but I'm hoping it's common practice to wait closer to the end before bidding..

Nope -- you can't cancel an auction once there's a bid.

Like it was said, though, you can promote the auction. The External Auctions forum here is a nice place to start! Perhaps put a link in your signature here, too.

It has until Friday -- that's plenty of time to rack up more bids. Many of my bids in Sedo auctions come on the last day. :tu:

Thanks Etab, I'll try out the External Auctions link.....I was curious about if most bids do come in on the last day also. I understand all names are different though :tu:
