Do you Domain full time or part time? why and what got you into it?

My profession/trade which is basically truck driver all though the last year I worked was on the management side, Managing a small fleet of drivers...I got a class A cdl license back in late 1999 bought my first domains in 2005...Stayed in the transportation business until the beginning of february 2007 at which time I got laid off due to the company going out of business.

Since this wasn't the first time I'd worked for a company that had relocated out of state or went out of business this weighed heavily on mind on whether to get another trucking job which are in very high demand since there is a shortage of drivers in the U.S or take full advantage of the time I would have learning how to profit from my domains.

I can gladly say it's December 23 and has been approximately 10 months of long hours on the computer learning everything I can learn..I haven't gotten laid off, manage my own time, still have my cdl but earn more than I could at any Truck Driving job....I actually turned down a driving job recently offering $1,300 per week

Still so much I have to learn domaining...I know i've just broke the tip of the iceberg and look very forward to learning how to advance from this point

If I ever work for someone else again I would like it to do with domaining :tu:

I have a computing background from college. I started making money online by selling advertising space on my website. and somehow.... I can't really remember how I got into domaining, maybe it was while doing some google research or something.

Hope to go full time in 2008.

Good Times. Still isn't bringing in as much money as i would like but whatever its fun!

Between my websites and my domains, they make up 100% of my income. However being that I am younger than most, the income I have would not suffice if I had bills of my own, However I am expanding and hope to be up there some day.

I do this all as a hobby. I am currently in college and playing a sport for my school so that takes up most of my time. I doubt domaining is ever going to more then just a hobby of mine.

Not enough money in the domaining field to do it full time. Probably less than 100 people in the world would make enough from domaining full time. Starting a company on a fully developed domain would but thats not really domaining then. Its a fun hobby though for now.

Thats not true. I know several people who domain full time and it is their only income source. Their is defintley more than 100 people who make a living from domaining.

Agree with all - I've been in the IT world close to 20 years (yeah, back from the BBS days) and domaining is just a nice cushion for ...

...development of domains into sites!

Cheers,

Rob

Yeah what is meant by "enough money" :)
I'd say there's got to be several thousand people who make "enough money" full time from domaining

Exactly, I know a domainer who owns a "Christmas"
domain that earns $7500 a month this time of year.
Passed up an offer of mid XXX,XXX, yet says he's still
looking forward to retirement. Go figure!

Is there ever enough. :hehe:

I don't even do this part time, it's more of a hobby for me as I'm still in school.

Then again, I don't have the money to make this a full time job anyways.

I domain part-time, but I actually earn more buying and selling domains than I do at my full-time job as a market researcher. I've dabbled in domaining as a hobby for a few years, but I didn't get seriously into it until I joined NamePros and without NP I never would have taken that leap.

I'm an X OTR driver myself. Drove for Nascar and also alot of very big heavy haul oversized load stuff. 13 axle loads :) Now I operate heavy equipment fulltime (currently laid off) so domaining fulltime trying to survive. Hopefully one day soon I have a big enough sale I can actually start domaining and developing sites fulltime for my fulltime job. How did I get into it? Stumbled across tdnam one day while registering a domain name and noticed the prices domains were going for. I said hmmmm.......... I can get into this. So I typed in domain forums into google and the rest is history :)

C'mon now, there are many folks domaining full time.

I created an extra upper $xx,xxx a year income just off of TDNAM, just this year. Did I spend a lot to acquire this new income? Yes.

There are tons of folks working different angles. There are still those doing new regs, doing trademark typos (they should stop), tasting domains, IDN's, contacting current owners and making offers, working SEDO and Afternic, etc......

If you are good enough at it, just like anything else, you can domain full time and have plenty of cash. If you are not good you will get burnt.

I began working for Godaddy in 2005 (I had known about domain names prior to, but not to the depth I learned them while working for them) During my time at Godaddy I managed to pickup an LLL.com for pennies and subsequently sold it early in 2006 for just shy of $20,000.

I jumped in full steam and was picking up domain names left and right (mostly aftermarket TDNAM names at first) then spread myself out. I left Godaddy with a fair amount of cash and opted to try to start my own domaining business. Things didnt pan out at first as good as I thought. Sales were slow, and my domain portfolio was lacking (about 100 at the time).

I went back to work for another internet company heading up their Sales department but never stopped hunting for domains. I managed to bring in a nice income working full-time and domaining concurrently. (I was Domaining from work).

Late in 2006 I built NameBio.com - which is now my signature site. I figured that if Domaining were to ever become mainstream then a system that kept track of sales would be needed for comps. This logic seems to hold true as the more information gets out there, the more the industry seems to grow.

In the early part of 2007 I had several x,xxx sales with minimal effort. I continued to invest and build a stronger portfolio when in July I gave my company notice, and gave full-time domaining a try once more. August 1st 2007 - my LLC went live and I have been happy and working from home ever since.

I became a Moderator on NamePros not long ago - and I expect 2008 to be a breakout year.
