That is an awful Forbes piece, just a pumper ad disguised as an objective article.

I admit that I have a love/hate relationship with Godaddy, but this attack could happen to any registrar, maybe even ICANN or the State Department. I just hope the major internet sites are on high alert.

I'm just afraid this attack is a precurser to a larger internet attack in the wings; the timing is just too coincidental.

I think GD was attacked because of its massive reach and its outage having the newsworthiness to garner some national attention, which it has (albeit not that much).

I saw your last post about 9/11. Little too conspiracy theory for my taste, think it's just coincidence. People are always trying something, every single day. Maybe it was just somebody who was mad they're cutting down/out on the bikini commercials or tried a coupon and it didn't work.

That is beyond stupid on their part. They'll probably get it next now.

Thought it was up as well but I couldn't log in either. Bad business. You would think they would be able to prevent something like this from happening.

Nope, just the homepage.

I couldn't log in.

I can't believe it. They are so fast! I figgured it needs to be saved for the history.

Check the strategic placement of FB "like" button just under "GoDaddy is Down" message.

At the very least, there should be a message on that homepage about the outage.

GD needs to keep its customers in the loop.

Stupid ad.

How can anyone transfer out of GD when the GD transfer codes aren't available due to the outage?

New regs, yes, transfers = epic fail.

Despite its short name, Name.com is just a little squeaker among registrar giants.

I'm surprised... not at Name.com's shameless promo but at the fact that anyone here is surprised at them doing it. In fact, I'm more surprised that other registrars haven't jumped in to do the same thing yet. This isn't the first time.

And I'm sure they'll keep the $6.99 transfer offer on for long enough to let people move across from GD. A Name.com rep already posted on that Forbes article earlier.

Anyway, despite the tacky way of doing it - its business! They'll milk it if they can.

This is the same company that forced a customer to transfer a domain because of a DDOS attack and threats of more -

Free Speech and DDOS Attacks

Caving into threats doesn't exactly inspire confidence.

well this is a first time I am seeing this in the domain registration industry. Whenever mentioning another registrar, normally that would be about price vs. value comparison and not "their failures are bigger than ours".

Is Name.com so desperate in capturing its market share?

I don't know why NAME.COM thinks that there s#%t does not stink, they had the same problem a few months ago when they were threatened by a Chinese group for hosting a specific website. They quickly stuck their tail between there legs then.

I would rather stick with GoDaddy than some 2 bit registrar.

Now that my email works, I just got a GD Survey wanting me to rate & tell them how they did on handling my call inquiring why their service was down!!!

I can now login, but there are still some glitches with SSL for those using OpenDNS.

Name.com isn't the only company promoting this... Hostgator is giving 6 months away or 50%, I never seen such promotion from them...

You can see it starting to appear everywhere, the coupon is godaddyisdown and one of the links http://no_url_shorteners/ROFuyU

I'd assume they understand the very same thing might be happening to them and show some some respect and solidarity. Apparently not.
