Is Godaddy selling our infos to someone? I have never got these kind of weird emails before and even if I do it isnt this well customized with the domain name written in it an all.

Odd. Both sites are registered with 1and1, and both have hidden whois.

Yes! I noticed that and I get this only for my keyword domains and not all those LLLL an stuff that I register there. I even did a google search and smilewebsitehost doesnt have any kind of records but I saw this one blog when searching for the other one http://robertdot.org/2007/09/21/who-the-hell-is-domain-design-shop.html and I guess I am not the only one getting these emails :|

Anyone correct me if I'm wrong, but couldn't anybody get lists of the latest domains
registered and then all they would have to do is check the whois for your contact
info. I doubt GoDaddy would be selling customer's info this way. Would be bad for
business. IMHO.

Exactly my thoughts.
If this was happening then everybody would be getting emails like this, I've never had one and all my domains are registered with godaddy.

It's clear that somebody has a program running that checks if a new domain is registered, then they send an email to the whois address. It's clearly an attempt at getting business, it's not godaddy selling our information.

If godaddy were doing this, I'm sure we'd have been told by other domainers by now. (Hi Network solutions >:C)

Wonder why just certain domain buyers are getting the e-mails. I reg'd four domains with GD yestrday and haven't received anything. Maybe some sort of targeted topics?

plus, the services being offered in the email are also offered by GoDaddy, so it would essentially equate to GoDaddy advertising for competitors... just not feasible

I get them when I order a dot org from Godaddy

The subject is always something like 'Important Information About Your Domain' .....Here's one of them...

YES me too, with a keyword .org registered at Godaddy (and I think with another one also)

The latest is from 'Smile Website Host':
"A web host is a special computer that allows the world to view your website over the Internet..."

How stupid if they did sell our details, don't they know that us NPers talk??

I think they just get lists of recently registered domains. I've gotten several phone calls from "design" companies after registering domains. It has only happened regarding names at Godaddy, but that's probably just a coincidence because that's where I register 90% of my domains.

Well if it was a bot or something that randomly picks up domain names and sends emails it can as well send mails to those names I register at name.com and domainsite an all. Why does it happen only when these godaddy domains?

It definitely is not a coincidence. I have hardly any domains at Godaddy and I just got these 99cents ones and I get these weird emails.

I am unsure about this.
I never got any promotional e-mail with any domain registered at godaddy.
But only once I got such e-mail for a domain registered at Register.com,but never again.

I think, these are the magic the tracking cookies from third party sites !

I also think spywares and other tracking cookies may cause this. I used Godaddy many times, they may sell your domain name searches, etc. but I don't think they sell your private information, which is very risky for the future of their business.

This has been discussed who knows how many times. Some of Go Daddy's top
executives have already stated in various places they don't sell your searches
or register domain names for themselves, albeit that hasn't stopped some from
believing otherwise anyway.

this is different issue yes?

GoDaddy is very agressive in cross-selling their own services I doubt if they would be hurting their own reputation and business by selling users contact information. These spammers have no need to pay for the info anyways, they're probably just taking it from the whois.

I suggest you report the spammers to their host and registrar.

I thought the OP was talking about GoDaddy selling their customer info eg. email list and your comment seemed to be talking about the practice network solutions got busted for (and godaddy accused of) of grabbing domain names people were searching for.
