Hello NP!
Hope everyone is doing great and happy!

I have a forum with more than 200 members and 20000 posts. It's quite popular and is about indian celebrities - nobody knows anything about internet or anything related to sites.
The only sad thing is when i was searching for IPB in google - obviously i didnt know about their official site at that site . anyhow when i was searching i found the nulled version of IPB when means the hacked version and i used it.
About a week ago my friend told me that i'm using the hacked version which is illegal and recommended me to delete it.
but how come? i'm earning from that forum and how come i can just close it?

Please give me idea should I stick with it or close it?

Thanks.!

Releases of IPB up to something like 1.3.1 (or 1.3, whichever) were free, so continue to use it. After that version, you might be using an illegal copy, in which case you really should delete it. But you don't have to delete the forum to get off IPB, I'm sure there are some conversion tools to go from IPB to something free like phpBB.

They can't delete your board... only you have access to your hosting account. Just go there and tell them you weren't aware that it was a commercial product, you thought it was free, and your looking for a way to get off of it (or acquire a license, if you are so inclined to do so)

I don't have the money for a license. Yes IPB can delete my board.they can contact my host and tell them that i'm using a illegal version doing business illegally so they might give host access to them.

One more question :

Can somone tells if i'm using a illegal version?

I mean does it says on the board that its a nulled version?
If i keep using it - can a person tell if thats a nulled version?

Your on a forum where people produce intellectual property all day long, many for a living, and asking us how you can continue using your warez copy of a software package without detection???

I'm all for helping you get right with the licensing of the application, or move to an application more in your price range, but you need to take that "I know this is a commercial app, how do I keep using it for free?" stuff elsewhere...

If your asking if I can put my money up for your licensing cost, no, I won't. You might offer ad space to others here in the appropriate forum to raise money for your licensing, but I don't need it.

However, if you download phpbb, they have a script that will convert your current forum databases from IPB to phpBB, then you'd just have to worry about converting your templates over, if necessary.

...or to Invision 1.3 - that one is free and might also be easier to convert.
