TM's aside, Nintendo released the official name for the next generation Nintendo games console: Wii (as in "we").

"Introducing... Wii.
As in "we."

While the code-name Revolution expressed our direction, Wii represents the answer. Wii will break down that wall that seperates videogame players from everybody else. Wii will put people more in touch with their games... and each other. But you're probably asking: What does the name mean?

Wii sounds like "we," which emphasizes the console is for everyone. Wii can easily be remembered by people around the world, no matter what language they speak. No confusion. No need to abbreviate. Just Wii.

Wii has a distinctive "ii" spelling that symbolizes both the unique controllers and the image of people playing it. And Wii, as a name and a console, brings something revolutionary to the world of videogames that sets it apart from the crowd.

So that's Wii. But now Nintendo needs you. Because it's really not about you or me. It's about Wii. And together, Wii will change everything."

My vote goes to grabbing available .info if it fits.. then the better ccTLD's..last resort is the overly long, anything-as-long-as-it's-com names.

wow quite a wii rush (!) on yesterday - all the good .com names snapped up quickly

when this happens do we think it is better to get the best names in a 'lesser' extension e.g wiigame.net, wiinews.info, wii.ro wiiconsole.eu etc

or go for the wiicheatcodeshere.com variety?

or just accept you weren't quick enough and missed out

In an interview with CNN Money, Nintendo of America's vice president of marketing and corporate affairs, Perrin Kaplan, defended the title.

"I think people have to look back and let it settle in," Kaplan said. "I'm sure people felt the same way when Google was named - or the iPod. Napster. Yahoo. There's a whole host of unusual names that have become a part of everyday conversation and I think they're viewed now as unique."

I actually think the hyphenated version is "better" SEO-wise.. for resale, most prefer the non-hyphenated versions. I own quite a few hyphenated domains and will often choose those over the non-hyphenated version.
Good...then I don't feel bad grabbing wii-cheat.com, buy-wii.com and wii-faqs.net. For my resale one I chose, wiigod.com.

wiimad.com is all I could be bothered with. Got it yesterday when there were loads left, but didn't see such a craze coming! Selling off my old revolution names now too, but maybe they will get PPC?
I think the revolution was a much better name, still, I'm not as qualified as whoever made the choice, so I guess they know best!
I might keep some of my names for the revolution, but a lot contain the word nintendo- will this raise more trademark problems than just wii?

That's my vote. Honestly, I hate to be the buzzkill, but imo 90% of the names people are showcasing here are reg fee. If it's not a pure wii name or cheats/games/console/forum .com it'll be very tough to sell for much more than reg fee. I think wii'll see most of these names in the sales threads very soon as people realize they bought junk in an effort not to miss the boat. I missed the boat. That's how it goes. I'd rather pony up $100 to buy a nice wii name early on than waste $100 regging worthless names that I now have to worry about trying to sell.

Good luck all.

I think this is probably the perfect time to build a wii website. You'd get alot of traffic from search engines since it isn't too common yet.

I got yesterday the following.

wiiconsoles.com
wiiconsoles.info

Listed on Sedo, is it worth sitting back and waiting for possible offers to come in, what sort of end users should I aim it at?

weewii.com

I agree.. particularly for the 99% who got the average wii domains (as opposed to the names liable to get immediate offers).

Lots of regfee wii names regged (as someone mentioned) IMO.

Those first out of the gate are more likely to get the top ranking. I may develop a few of mine for that reason as opposed to letting them sit on Sedo.

ba da bing!

I managed to grab these domains before they were taken by others. All the domains I grabbed were based on the OVT value for comparitive systems. So I should expect the search #'s to be somewhat similar. (if not higher due to all the nintendo publicity going on)

WIICHEAT.COM * OVT for xbox cheat is 136412 (high potential- "we cheat")
WIICONSOLE.COM * OVT for xbox console is 82246
WIIGAME.COM * OVT for xbox game is 78562 (high potential - "we game")
WIIGAMERENTAL.COM * OVT for xbox game rental is 61626
WIIRELEASEDATE.COM * OVT for ps3 release date is 28154
WIICODE.COM * OVT for xbox code is 16281
WIIEMULATOR.COM * OVT for nintendo emulator is 14963
WIIPICTURES.COM * OVT for ps3 pictures is 6030
WIIPRICE.COM * OVT for ps3 price is 3839 (high potential - Money to be made)
WIIRELEASE.COM * OVT for ps3 release is 4011
WIICHIP.COM * OVT for xbox chip is 1927
PREORDERWII.COM * OVT for preorder ps3 is 2082 (high potential - Money to be made)
WIIPREORDER.COM * OVT for ps3 preorder is 1858 (high potential - Money to be made)
FREEWII.COM (attempt to sell to gratis/freepay/freeipods.com company)
FREEWIIS.COM (attempt to sell to gratis/freepay/freeipods.com company)

My plan is to develop sites from all of them, create a "wii network" of sorts and cross promote the entire thing.
Lucky for me I got most of the good domains before the announcement was all over digg and slashdot.
yay for ign reading.
