Hi Members

Thanks for all your help till now. I am back with a new questions this time :)

1)How to get information about what are the new gTLDs and ccTLDs planned(would appreciate a link to the site)

2) How soon can I bid for domain names for new gTLDs and ccTLDs

Pardon me if I am not very clear in framing my questions

Thanks in anticipation

For the gTLDs (or should that be sTLDs?) you should visit ICANN's site (icann.org), there is a big link on the home page. (Deep link: http://icann.org/en/announcements/announcement-2-23oct08-en.htm)

I'm sure if/when you can buy domains in these new extensions will be a while away. Keep you eye out for "Official .domainercashcow Hype Thread"-type threads appearing on NamePros!

I anticipate that most of these new extensions will be closed or have extremely high barriers to entry- e.g. a media company such as the BBC might have exampleshow.bbc, anothershow.bbc, etc. for each show and wouldn't want anyone else to use any names on their extenstion. There may be a few 'open' extensions, but most of these will end up being parked-up domainer wastelands with perhaps a few exceptions. The proposed .web is easily the pick of the bunch in terms of extensions, but I imagine the domainers will (sadly) kill it through speculative registrations and no development.
The ones I feel will have the best chance of long-term survival (i.e. good numbers of registrations/renewals/developed sites/promotions) are the community extensions (like .cat) where the community has a strong cultural identity (e.g. Cymru/Wales and the proposed .cym).

As for ccTLDs, I can't remember many new countries being formed recently, except Kosovo- so that one will probably be next.
