Indexing a site

I just created a new site that I would like to get indexed into Google.

What is the best way to submit my site to all available directories?

Directories are different from search engines. You usually have to pay for directories.

You can submit your url to the search engines, but the fastest way to get picked up these days is to have a link to the site on some other relevant site or page.

I have a site that went from 1-5 visitors per day to over 100 visitors per day in around 6 weeks and is now Alexa ranked and yesterday when I checked it has placed about another 500,000 places better than a few weeks ago. Hopefully it will keep doing better, funny thing is it's just a free 5 page starter site that I've neglected.

You can start off by submiting Your Site to the main search Search Engines which is relatively easy to do.

Submit Your Site to Google:

Submit Your Site to the Yahoo Directory:
http://search.yahoo.com/info/submit.html

Submit Your Site to MSN:
http://beta.search.msn.com/docs/submit.aspx

Then you can take DnPresident's advice and submit to directories which will take quite a bit longer.

1. what did you do to go from 1-4 to over 100 visitors a day?
2. how can one find out how high they are "placed"?
